It takes more than a redesign of the hardware. At the time the DSlite was launched, also the brain games hype started and games like Nintendogs and Animal Crossing helped a lot too. 2 or 3 months after the DSlite launched, New Super Mario Bros was released and there you had the killer catalogue of games that made the DS so popular. It's delusional to think that a PSP redesign will result in much higher sales, because the PSP will still have the same games for the same demographics as before. It's great that the PSP gets more original games now and less PS2 ports, but those exclusive games are for the same audience that bought the PS2 ports before. The DS took off because of the combination of better designed hardware and software that expanded the market. I can't see Sony doing the same in the near future. |
People keep saying this, but how is Crush or Lumines or Gunpey or Parappa for the same audience? These are all not your usual console game. |
Is Sony doing any marketing for those games you mentioned? I live in austria so I can't say that much about tv commercials, just that I haven't seen one tv spot for the PSP that actually shows a game and not only praises other features of the PSP. |
Whether they are marketed or not, they are great games that are not PS2 ports. The PS2 port argument is really old at this point. Not to me, I mean it hasn't applied for quite some time.
I don't remember seeing DS commercials at all. Maybe that's just me. Do I not watch enough children's programming? Some Saturday morning cartoons? I might remember New SMB, now that I'm trying to remember...
The only PSP commercials I've seen lately is that "get your own" stuff. Maybe I just ignore portable commercials.
