Forums - Website Topics - Thread improvement idea

Not sure if this has ever been raised before but I have an idea on how the threads on this site could be improved and it's something I've seen in a forum on another (non-gaming) website - the ability for people to state whether they agree or disagree with a persons post by way of voting buttons on each post. You hit the "Agree button" a tick gets placed at the bottom of the post and vice versa if you hit "Disagree" a cross gets placed at the bottom of that posting.

The ability to see who has agreed and disagreed with a particular posting should also be possible.

 Other peoples thoughts?

I am largely platform agnostic. I fail to understand why some people get overly fanboyish about what is an inanimate piece of electronics that's obsolete even before it's launched, when there are far more important things to champion, such as preventing environmental destruction or preventing millions of people dying unnecessarily from illnesses. This fact however, doesn’t mean I am not someone who doesn’t enjoy gaming as a pastime (as I have done for the last 20 years) or doesn’t have a strong interest in how the market is evolving – hence my presence on this site.

Platforms owned – PC, DS, X-Box 360, PS3, PSP and Wii.

Hmmmz, I really don't see why this would be very usefull =:.

people would just follow the people they hate around and disagree with everything they say in order to make them look bad.

What would be the point of that?

Nintendo still doomed?
Feel free to add me on 3DS or Switch! (PM me if you do ^-^)

Nice idea, unfortunately it relies on people being decent people, something that won't happen.

I've seen many forums implement this and I've yet to see it work well. In short, people always get karma trolled (I can explain more later, just don't have the time to post a lengthy post).

It may save lots of people simply posting "I agree" or conversely lots of people not contributing to a thread simply because all they'd have to say is "I agree with everything you said" to a particular persons posting.

Lots of threads have very good postings, but those good posters get drowned out by those who disagree. Many many times I think "Hear hear" to someones comments but don't wish to go through all the hassle simply to post something as simple as "I agree with you". The voting buttons would empower people who feel the same way as me by allowing them to express an opinion on something by way of a simple click of a mouse.

Yes it could be open to abuse, but everything is open to abuse if not properly policed.

It totally kicked ass back when I was on lame-ass Joystiq, because all the rabid trolls would make each other invisible so only my beautiful essays were still there, in a crisp shiny bold.

I think a few users here are simply to fueled by bias to actually allow such a system to work properly.

I am SuperLloyd!

(Im)patiently awaiting the Dawn of the New World!

I've seen it in use before............it doesn't work. Most people only vote for their "friends" or their "enemies".........everyone else they tend to ignore. The same people will continually agree/disagree with the same people (for the most part).
