Forums - Nintendo - Seth Killian shown Monster Hunter 3 non-final build, says it's "amazing"

I don't see much wrong in that thread. Any particular post you're talking about?

 I'll help you out.

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/post.php?id=552703

Here we are talking about how mmos could be a wrpg or a jrpg, but almost every mmo non korean is western developed, even the jrpg ones.

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/post.php?id=552865

In here he states that wrpgs are" lest linear." This is one quality of the sub-genre wrpg, which supports what I said.

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/post.php?id=552967

Here he also states a quality most jrpgs have. This means he thinks of it as different from wrpg, and says nothing of region. Which supports my statement.

I'll just make a large list of posts. Also I could send you to threads where people asked what the difference was and got an answer that wasn't neccsarily region specific.

Are you excited about this Soriku?

I mean, were you excited about Monster Hunter on PS2 or Monster Hunter Freedom on PSP? If not, you probably shouldn't be too excited about this.

Just a heads-up. It'll probably be more of the same. Which is a good thing, if you liked the other titles.

I've never heard about MH much before MH3 was announced. I heard about the PSP ones before though. PS2 ones didn't know about 'til MH3. I've never played a MH before, but I've seen vids and such, and it looks like a good game :3 Plus a lot of people like it...why not get hyped? >_>

Just saying, don't get your hopes up for this game.

Lots of Japanese people buy it, not Americans. It's a very different taste for American games/gamers. Lots of people don't like it too much in America.

But if you like it, more power to you, it's a great game.

Soriku's taste doesn't seem typical American.  He should be fine.

Monster Hunter has some similarities to PSO, does it not? PSO really has no story to speak of either, but I would definitely consider it an RPG. My Monster Hunter experience is extremely limited, but I would also draw comparisons to dungeon crawlers like the Shining Soul and Mysterious Dungeon games.

Hates Nomura.

Ok, wow I didn't realize people were that upset about this game moving to the Wii still. I mean wow come on give it a break, just buy the system or something if it has a game on it you like.

Anyway that's not my point, my arguement lay in how non lol this thread is, so in an attempt to murder the ignorance level here I'll post a few things.

1. MH was originally on the PS2 as you all know, the game flopped hard due to lack of advertizement and not just it's bad reception, critics were especially hard on it but the game truely failed in the US as later admitted by Capcom due to lack of a real marketing push here. (Here being US and includes EU)

2. I wasn't aware MH existed until I heard about it on the Wii, heck I never even heard it was coming to the PS3 until after I thought it was cool (saw the trailer). I went to my gamestop and bought a used copy of MH PS2, sadly the servers are down but the game is fun offline until the first wyrem experience. In fact the graphics on the game far surpass most games on the PS2 to date also the game play is unique.

3. So what is MH well its a RPG with no story so deal with it, it's also a survival game because the point is to fend for yourself. Playing a role in a game doesn't mean there has to be a story it just means your playing your part using some avatar or character. The most similar game to Monster Hunter would be PSO or Diablo, which are both considered RPGS, but more specifically Dungeon crawlers. Except with MH your aiming to do a specific task, which is similar to the missions in PSO.

4. So what makes it so good? Well first off MONSTER HUNTER DOESNT HAVE A LEVEL UP SYSTEM you don't fight to get stronger level wise you find raw materials off monsters and plants and other elements around you, you go fishing, bug catching and mining, to get raw materials you can poach monsters by litterally going above the monster whipping out your knife and going to work. The game also forces you to make your own potions from scratch on he field and so on. The games big feature are Wyrems which are very smart creatures as you can lure them trap them blow them up and all kinds of stuff. Using the resources you've made or acquired you can make pitfalls, explosives, net traps, gas traps, flash bangs and a wide assortment of other resources to help take one of these guys down. Each Wyrem has parts to their body thats weak to a specific weapon, also the part of the weapon you hit with determines your damage in relation to what part of the monster you hit.

MH features much more than what I nailed above but go buy MH and you will understand why I at least am highly anticipating MH3.

5. Idiotic - oh come on; to think that Americans don't like killing big dragons with big swords in heavy armor with a team or kicking a dragon in the nuts while it's on the floor or to do the same to another player in Pvp is idiotic and to say that or insinuate that only japanese people can enjoy such a thing is the likness. I'm sure this game will find it's niche in America if they educate the gaming public this time around last time I knew no one that knew about this game, that's a small group in relation to the world but come on we knew about Devil May Cry.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

@ SC

there is NO story, whatsoever period.

Yeah there is. Remember, you got knocked out and can't remember who you are. Then when you wake up you decide to become a Monster Hunter. You get this cute little pig as a pet. You've got a bunch of crazy cats in the kitchen always cooking up something new. You get a farm where you can go fishing and go bug hunting. And then you get this wild mission to go kill a Yang Kut Ku and you find out they're really fucking hard to kill (the first time). It goes on from there. Yep, that's the story.

Lulz.

Yeah, that's an awesome story.

@ Pikaboo

Yes, 2 mil first week.  It will outsell all three PSP versions in one week.

I hope you were joking?

If not.  Don't answer, you've already done enough damage, and went off topic.

Omg I have to get all of these games. Do the psp versions have online. The game sounds so much fun. Is there voicechat in the psp verisons.  I hope the wii game is as good as you made it sound. Oh and I think it is meant to be more multiplayer based, and that is why it doesn't have a story. SImilar to a sub-mmo or something. How many people could you play with? These questions aren't just meant for you dmeister and others could answer too.

fkusumot you hit the nail on the head, I still don't know why I spent over 30 hours on the first Monster Hunter Portable and foolishly spent another 50 on the 2nd when I didn't even have another person to play it with....At least I had godly armor, and weapons...

-=Dew the disco dancing fo da Unco Graham=-

sc you can't play PSP online without a specific router and software, you can google what you need, I didn't have the required router so I played alone, and sometimes it'll feel like it's impossible to kill the monster.

Well brother, you're a batshit crazy hardcore gamer, or at least I think that's what you must be to spend over 80 hours playing the worlds only solo (or duo w/wi-fi) MMO. I'm really looking forward to this. I hope it has region free connectivity.
