Forums - Gaming - Why I am not that excited with the Wii and Wii Fit sales

I think the Wii is doing wonderfull and Wii Fit is going to be a great success and help increase the gaming market nicely.

Sadly as a gamer I don't see that as something that will really benefit me in the future because I see a significant percentage of those new people coming through gaming via the Wii don't really share my gaming tastes.

Maybe I am wrong but if Wii Fit is that successfull I believe quite a few developers will be tempted to work more on Wii Fit clones than on the kind of games I enjoy as a gamer ( AC, Uncharted, GTA4,...).

I believe the situation will improve in a few years when the Wii game market gets saturated but in the meanwhile the Wii success is not pushing developers to start mega productions that could end up being tomorrow's franchise...

 



PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Wii fit is total bullshit and I hoped for it to fail miserably.

Still there are plenty of other reasons to own a Wii and plenty of good games. I can't see people creating Wii Fit clones; it's too risky with the high hardware costs and there's not much else you can do with the fitness 'genre' without releasing a new peripheral.

 So then you expect every game to be tailored to you and screw everyone else that may actually like those kind of games?

High hardware costs? The Wii is cheapest to make games for out of all 3 systems. Just cuz you don't like Wii Fit doesn't mean it won't sell gangbusters. As for hoping it to fail, you really are shameless.

Look at the PS2.

Look at how many niche games went on to be complete flops, whereas crap like Spongebob and Finding Nemo and The Incredibles sold millions.

The Wii isn't anywhere near as bad as the PS2, at least so far. And developers won't be tempted away from development for hardcore games. It just means that there will be less shovelware for the HD consoles (which is both good and bad). Either way, you won't be seeing something like Conflict: Denied Ops two years from now.

 Sacasm, I presume?   If not, such venomous words towards something so benign against yourself.   Do you feel threatened by its existence?  Do you always display this much animosity against things that are not of your personal interest?
