I don't know who did Half Life on Dreamcast, but Gearbox (the guys who made the add-on Half Life: Opposing Forces) did Half Life on the PS2. It was a very good port and had multiplayer options...though higher polygon count and improved graphics over the PC version? I'm not so sure about that one... And EA published Half Life 2 on the original Xbox, as well as the Orange Box for 360 and PS3 of course. |
Gearbox also did the Dreamcast version, with double the number of polys that Valve used in the original, and the AI was also upgraded. Support for the Keyboard and mouse was also incorperated.
There was no multi-player,but Sierra had promised one to be later released with Opposing Force,Team Fortress 1.5, multi-player and possibly even Counter-Strike.

PS: Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the Cell in itself. It's a great choice for many programming tasks, just not the best for games (at least in its current form, with only one PPE instead of 2 or 3 as Sony had originally planned).

"Devs will be able to develop on it and get great stuff out of it quickly because they learned it, once, with PS3. Unless they *didn't* try to learn to program for Cell with PS3. Then, not so much."
So, kinda like the Wii in that respect.
But to be more on point, I don't think the Cell is as bad as the Emotion Engine because, while it's very different from traditional PC CPU architecture, it's not just some bizarro custom thing that only the PS3 will ever have. It's a true alternative that's being created.
But there will definitely be more PPEs ... but not 16, I think.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia. Thanks WordsofWisdom!
It is considerably cheaper for Valve to solely develop games for PC only. Developing games for PS3 and 360 costs a lot more than PC game development.

Obvious statement is obvious.
The only reason you normally get riled up over something like this, is because people want to play the amazing games Valve has to offer. Buts it not on a PS3.
That being said, sell that low powered PS3 and get a PC. Play all the valve games you want.

You didn't bother on reading a single post in this thread, right? And what's up with all this bashing on Newell's weight? He's not a goddamn fashion model, he's a GAME DEVELOPER, he can't be bashed for that. I don't see anyone praising Miyamoto for his figure.
Seriously guys, it's the same as with... let's say, Epic not developing for the Wii. They don't want to, they don't see any business on it. They are on their right to put their games on the platform they want. Valve already has enough revenue from Steam.

You have to understand that the money they made on the (rather mediocre) sales of The Orange Box on 360 and PS3 is nothing compared to what they make selling their games on Steam and selling advertising space for Steam. The PC is their bread and butter in every way. |
