If the game is good, they will probably let someone else port it over.

Because Valve doesn't know how to use the SPEs on the Cell. (see Orange Box....they didn't even bother.)

"Don't have the resources..."? Yeah, fair enough. Must be way tougher on you if your "philosophical" objection to Cell's assymetry keeps you from wanting to develop for it. Whatever.

You do know that EAUK handled the PS3 version, don't you? Like I said, Valve doesn't ahve the reouserces to do many games at one time. So you insulted Vavle for a game they didn't even develop. God job.

Maybe I took Gabie's anti-Cell diatribes to be related to the no SPE use, when it was mere incompetance or lack of care on the part of others. But then again maybe Valve just told the others to get the game out and not bother because teh c3ll suxxors, heh. After Gabe's comments, I'll never lose my suspicions regarding Valve and the PS3.

God job indeed. ;)

Actually i'm pretty sure Valve said "Really you want to port it to the PS3? Ok."

Then took the free money EA gave to let them do it. Valve wasn't looking to make a PS3 orange box... they weren't even looking for a port team... they didn't see it as profitable. EA came to them about it though and the deal was struck.

Yeah, probably right.

EA was stinking it up early on with the Cell, too.  So we don't need anything else to explain the lack of optimization, I guess.

Not at all-- I don't care enough about the differences to keep my PC up to date. For things like TF2, Left4Dead, or any Valve game really, I want to play it on the PC but not so much other games.

I know my work PC can handle Left4Dead and I'm sure my home laptop can handle it on low settings but for the most part I don't care enough to keep a PC up to date enough that can run things like Gears, Bioshock, Mass Effect, or whatever the newest game is that will need the uber setup that I could just as easily play on the 360 or PS3.

Please, it takes very little maintenence to keep a PC playing multi-plat games. A new graphics card every couple years is more than enough to keep a PC running for an entire console generation. Multi-plats don't go up in System Reqs with time. Mass Effect has less system reqs than Bioshock.

Bingo. To get multiplatforms you need only a PC strong enough to handle console games.

Come on twesterm, you could use some of the cash you make from selling off those PS3s that seem to fall from the sky into your lap for some newer PC hardware.

I know, I know, I'm in the minority, but I actually prefer console games as opposed to PC when a game is on both platforms. And I even keep my PC up to date.

Doug Lombardi needs to lose weight?

He must've meant Gabe Newell. He's not thin.

@loud & SSJ,

He obviously meant to insult Gabe, the problem is the article mentions Doug Lombardi by name four times in four small paragaphs and before each and every quote. He either didn't read the article or is just under the mistaken impression that valve = Gabe regardless of who gives the interview.

Either way Naz's point stands as a testament to one of those ignorances.

@Naz,

Darn you beat me to it, I had the EXACT same picture too =P

@topic,

I won't be surprised if L4D goes to PS3 eventually considering the money that could be made. I doubt it will be a valve developed game though and that really sucks for PS3 owners. On that point I agree Valve is kind of screwing you guys, but I also see where/why their coming from. Its time and resources to build or even port a game particularly to a platform that is so fundamentally different from what their developers are used to.

If anyone doubts that they could develop for PS3 you can keep on lying to yourself, the issue is purely financial as it always is for every developer since the beginning of time. Limited money, limited time, and limited staff, etc.. is the problem not "teh powah of teh c3ll".

Valve is a great company and they take care of their customers but they do it because it is part of their business model not just because Gabe is a jovial guy (although thats probably why they chose this strategy to begin with). As soon as taking care of customers stops being a good strategy for business they will have to change their strategy, and I hope that day never comes.

Hmm, for me, it actually depends on the game. I will generally never buy FPS games for consoles (maybe an exception for the Wii) but for a game similar to Zelda or Assasin's Creed, PCs probably wouldn't be the best way to go.

 Well, I specifically like FPS games more on console than PC.  I like using the controller over mouse and keypad.  Not that I don't love FPS on the PC, it's just that if a game is on both, I choose console.

Valve knows their business. Wii/PS3 aren't in that loop for them. Nothing new here.

Hey Konnichiwa, what's leo in your signature for?

 Really? The aiming is absolutely horrible, at least from the games I've played. I have noticed that current FPS games that also tailored to consoles make the crosshair bigger to compensate for that which screws up the PC version. From my point of view anyways.

@selnor

but hey we watched the Dev of GOW get completely trashed for saying SMG had no story...fair do's
