Forums - Gaming - quick question about HDMI cables

just to clarify, if your going to use an HDMI cable for a ps3/360 you don't need to buy the "official" really expensive HDMI cables to get the best experience right?  Cause I wanna buy this 6ft HDMI cable on amazon for $2.00 but I wanna make sure that there no difference in quality between the really cheap and expensive HDMI cables.

Official doesn't mean jack. All HDMI cables are practically the same. Any cable claiming to be 1.3 ready or official or anything else is just marketing speak to get you to pay more money.

Go cheap. Other companies will try to rip you off with their popular name brands. In the end, an HDMI cable is just that. An HDMI cable. If you use copper cable, stay within 25 feet. If you need to go over 25 feet, use fiber optic cable. Try to get either of those. Remember copper is a great conductor of electricity and therefore a better, but possibly more expensive choice. That's about it, really.

The price of HDMI cables is irrelevant. You will get the same picture quality from a cable that cost you $50 or $2.

The HDMI cable I'm using cost me about $7 each and the picture quality is superb.

well, i got my hdmi cable from ebay and paid about $10 total. It worked fine until i bought CoD4. When i play this game the picture doesn't show up all the way. I don't have a problem with any of my other games, only this one. I think it might be because this game comes in at 720p and my other might come in a lower quality. i hope its not my ps3.

Might be your game.  Try any of the following.

Try using different cables.

Play it at a friends house.

Rent the game and see if it works.

The difference between cheap cables and expensive ones is the shielding..so if you have a lot of electronics go expensive. I have had some problems with cheaps ones before. Expensive cables will give you a better picture for longer cables because they lower distortion...really thought expensive cables are for video and audiophiles

i havent tried any of those but i did exchange my game the same day that i bought it and i got the same result.

No. That may be the case with analog cables, but not digital ones. Just ask the video/audiophiles @ avsforum.com.

@nextgreatchamp: There is zero possibility that your HDMI cable is causing your problems with just one game. If it was a problem with the cable, like a broken connector or something, everything would be affected, not just one specific game. It is either your TV or your console.
