Forums - Nintendo - Theres no price cut in this fiscal year, maybe even 4 years says Iwata

The parent's basement 'analysts' in this thread need to shut up. The Wii is their fastest selling console ever, will be their best selling home console ever and you think they need a price-cut? Do you not think a multi-billion dollar company can figure out that the demand/supply ration means that sales cannot rise higher than they currently are?

Around the Network

I wonder sometimes if people listen to what Iwata-san is actually saying... I get the impression that most do not.

There is no need to drop the price of an item which has not met demand. Further, Iwata's statements thus far imply that Nintendo's goal is to maintain the perceived value of the DS and Wii for as long as possible, meaning that consumers will still be willing to pay the current price for them down the road. Given the nature of inflation, and its rampant nature in recent years, this isn't hard to believe.

There is no effective way to gauge how long it will be before Wii demand is met; going by anecdotal evidence is useless, the US alone has over 300 million residents. One game store in one part of the country is just a single drop in a vast ocean.

As for the lack of information on upcoming games, Iwata stated months ago that they were going to cut back on press coverage for their titles until just a month or two before games' releases. This is just the realization of that statement.

BTW, Please answer, how many years before the PS2 have a price cut? Just wanna ask
Japan - 15 months post launch
America - 19 months post launch
Europe - 7-9 months post launch

That fast? Even with Playstation's domination during those days is it too risky? One year is total of 12 months.

The PS2 dropped price a few months prior to the launch of the Xbox and Gamecube to stave off the new competition.

Since the Wii is already in the midst of the competition, that same strategy doesn't apply.

OK, thanks... Seem a DVD player and mainstream appeal really put SONY on top. NOW, its Nintendo's turn to turn that around.

About the topic, what are people talking about there'll be a price cut in mid 2008, late 2008? The Wii was still on demand that the stockpiling even affects the overall sales in America, and it still selling twice as 360 and PS3 combined. NO WAY Nintendo will cut the price with sales like that now that Wii fit will be around the corner. Maybe in late 2009, yeah, but not this year.
