Basically, the reason Nintendo was going down in the dumps at that time is because of their third-party issue. I don't think that will happen to either MS or Sony since they allow more third parties to grow financially than Nintendo.

Please show us a prove of this... I'm curious... (I'm saying this based on two things, the success of the DS + the strong thir party support, and the dev cost of the PS3/360+high budget tittles)

I'm talking about consoles in the past and now as opposed to handhelds.  But just take a look at this:

http://vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=&console=DS&publisher=&sort=Total

Take a look at the top half.  Then take a look at any Sony or MS system's million sellers.

What he is saying is that Sony and Microsoft aren't able to release as many good quality games as Nintendo, thus third parties have an easier time to sell their games.

You kind of twisted my words there Rol.  I guess you could think that. lol.............lol and rol, rol and lol.

The Big N never came close to bankruptcy but I do what you're getting at. Had they continued down the path of the Gamecube then there is no doubt that Nintendo would have had to completely restructure there company. IMO, had Nintendo gone with a Gamecube 2, they might very well have been the next SEGA, contrary to what they might have said about never becoming a third party and would rather leave the videogame industry altogether if it ever came down to that.

Your article was well written and was more than just a good read. You pointed out key facts about how Nintendo has changed the way people think about videogames and how the power of perception has nothing on the consumer appeal. I, myself, have friends who were never into videogame consoles but decided to buy a Wii after playing the system at my house. Who would have imagined that a game such as Wii Sports would have the power to bring families and friends together in the manner that is has. Not I, thats for sure.

Well your comment about Nintendo and third parties isn't true in the first place. Now, Nintendo is allowing more room than the other first parties, since they don't have minimum standars for the Wii, thus allowing greater profit margin. Spin that into shovelware all you want, it won't change the fact that Nintendo doesn't magically stop developers from making money.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

All you need to do is go to million sellers on vgchartz and highlight the platform you want to see the highest sold games on each system.
