Forums - Gaming - Why the highest rated game shouldn't be labeled as"The best game ever"

This is inspired by the countless threads of OoT vs Gta IV

Games are reviewed based on their time right. Well "ever" refers to all time and not a single period of time as would be the case in a review.  This means the review is comparing the game to already released games, and not future games. So it would be incorrect to call a game that is the highest reviewed "the best game ever".

Another reason why this would be an incorrect statement is  the following expression " nothing lasts forever" I'm pretty sure chances are that a game will be out rated sometime in the future by another game.

I would prefer if people would use " The highest rated game history". You know " The best game ever" is an opinion, and if you say a more correct statement that is a fact then " The highest rated game in history" would be better.

The best game ever is Metal Gear Solid,Period. Dont ask any more questions.

Play B3yond

^ See here is an example of one of these opinions I was talking about.

Why didnt you make this thread when a nintendo game was on top? Are you mad that a PS3 game is on top?

Or is this because of a completly different reason?

of course you're right, cause Final Fantasy VII is the best game of all time, eventhough it doesn't have the highest rating, it has been played the most the last 10 years..

:P

''Hadouken!''

Nope its Deus ex and Planescape Torment :P

Zelda has way too few reviews to be on that list to be perfectly honest. Its an unfair comparison to today where most games have like 60 plus reviews. Besides I've always thought that reviewers give perfect scores too easily, especially console reviewers. Zelda doesn't deserve a perfect score. I can't speak for GTA as I haven't played it yet, but I bet I'll think the same way when I get around to playing it.

Leo-j, he made this in response to the sheer number of arguments about the whole OoT vs. GTA4 "Which game is better?" thingy... The reason it was not brought up before now is because this argument was not needed until now.

Thanks Luinil. Leo-J I made this now , because there wasn't too much argument then rather than now on the matter. If I was around during the time OoT came out I would do the same. Btw what held the record before OoT?

I believe the most appropriate and satisfying answer to this thread is:  Duh.
