Forums - General - Anyone here dislike, cannot stand anime?

The only anime you need is shinchan! I'm talking about the funimation dub version that runs on adult swim. My older brother tried to shove the Vagabond manga down my throat but no thank you. I would rather read The Devil Wears Prada than that.

Hi, this is Vince with Shamwow.

Was "Spirited Away" anime? You know, just asking...

I hate Manga/Anime. It looks like crap and I just don't get it. It seems so superficial.

fkusumot, yes. Spirited Away was made by Studio Ghibli, a great anime studio that makes some of the best movies evah!

Yeah, I generally don't like anime, but I'll make an exception for Crayon Shinchan.  The local Japanese station in my locale used to run subbed episodes.  Both the subbed and dubbed versions are awesome.

Also, Hamtaro season 1.  I'm serious.

yes it is an anime, just a poor one funded by Disney to be made. Watch SteamBoy its might better.

As for the topic: since your 19 you should watch more adult themed animes

DeathNote

Gundam 00

Elfen Lied

Burst Angel

Vampire Hunter D

Vampirte Hunter D - Bloodlust

GunXSword

GunGrave

Girls Bravo

Innocent Venus

and if you are the sentimental type: Diamond Dust Drops (im serious)

 I must respectfully disagree;

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0348121/

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0245429/

especially seeing how spirited away won the oscar for best animated feature. also, it wasn't funded by disney, but it was dubbed by them.

I have the same problem with anime I have with live action. Easily 99.999999% is absolute crap.

However, the Gems are amazing. Anime possesses a visual flare that is very enjoyable and unique, if done by the right studio. And also, unlike american TV, anime is designed to run a max of 1 - 2 seasons. This allows for well-paced and satisfying story telling and character development. It also feels complete since an endpoint is usually in sight. So you never really get that "where is this going" feeling that american shows like Lost, Alias, and How I met your Mother develops.

With this in mind I make some reccomendations from various studies and genres:

Studio Ghibli:
Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, & Grave of Fireflies (if you have a habit of wrist cutting, dont watch this)

Satoshi Kon (not a studio, but a director):
Perfect Blue, Millenium Actresss, Tokyo Godfathers

GAINAX (my fav):
Neon Genesis Evangelion, His and Her Circumstances, Gurren Laggan, Gunbuster 1 and 2, FLCL, This Ugly and Beutiful World.
*GAINAX is the FUBU (for us by us) of anime and without a proper understanding of it's history or vintage shows some of the narrative may be lost on you*

Studio Bones:
Full Metal Alchemist (series and movie), Eureka 7

Production IG:
Animatrix, Kill Bill (portions), Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
