Forums - General Discussion - Recommend some good chiptunes for me.

Anybody here into chiptunes?  Can you recommend any for little old Rubang's ghost?  I'm in the mood for some jams, but don't want vocals to distract me while I read, and I'm tired of the same old ambient stuff I've been listening to recently.  I want some funky jams that sound like they came on a cartridge.

Come on somebody, Hot Rats by Frank Zappa is halfway done, and I want some 8-bit jams to put on after it. I highly recommend Hot Rats if you want some insanely groovalicious instrumental jams. It's great for reading, language homework, sex, sleep, jogging, you name it. Also, it just sounds amazing.

Sorry...if you find someone I'd like some of that too....I'm in a music-craving mode at the moment, Frank Zappa doesn't sound too bad.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Hey Ben, in April 2007, there was this post on Joystiq announcing 2 free chiptunes albums. I just went back in time and found it.

Go here: http://www.yarhalla.jpn.org/yarhalla/16d/index_e.html

The 2 albums are Go Square and Gone Square and they're both by Dong. They're both pretty rad.

If nobody else is going to recommend something, I guess I'll just download something randomly from that same site and hope it's good.

Hmm I know this may not be what your lookin for but I love this listening to this well I read, its also a got a small bit of Funk to it, just because of the game they got it from.

Although the other stuff on OCremixes is really good all around it takes a while to sort through what you like and don't. I guy I know also found this on Wikipedia and listens to it all the time.

Ooh nice. Thanks. I've read about the official OCRemix community comp. albums, but never downloaded any. I'm torrenting Chrono Symphonic and Kong in Concert right now. Here's the full list of them:

Radical Dreamers: Thieves of Fate
Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream
Sonic 3 & Knuckles: Project Chaos
Super Street Fighter II Turbo: Blood on the Asphalt
Chrono Trigger: Chrono Symphonic
DooM: The Dark Side of Phobos
Kirby's Adventure: Rise of the Star
Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Hedgehog Heaven
Donkey Kong Country: Kong in Concert
Super Metroid: Relics of the Chozo

Download them here: http://www.ocremix.org/albums/

I'm downloading a couple of these OCRemix albums, and the first to finish was the Donkey Kong Country one. I think it's pretty fucking great so far. But then again, I'm totally biased. I still have my audio cassette of "DK JAMZ." DKC has such badass music. Anyway, OCR did it justice.

Meanwhile... anybody know of any good chiptunes? I'd rather trust one of you chumps here than just some random review online.

Ok I've downloaded all 10 OCRemix albums and I'm seeding them all. I'll post some reviews as I listen to all of them. The Doom one is fucking sweet.

Ok, 2 mentions now. I guess I'll have to czech it out. I really prefer albums over radio shows though. I'll put this on when I get home from school tonight.
