dude, it doesn't matter how much you spread the word. GTA4 is about to sell more than SSBB, more than SMG, MKW, etc. Get over it. |
I highly Disagree about Brawl (along with the other games, but I'll focus on Brawl), especially with Brawl's legs and the Japanese Market that GTA 4 won't have. |
Ha ha ha ha ha!!!! Wow, if that isn't the uninformed statement of the century. First off, Grand Theft Auto 4 is on two platforms. That greatly increases the sales potential. Not only that, but Brawl didn't even sell all that much in Japan to compete with the advantage that GTA will have in the other markets. Grand Theft Auto 4 will vastly outsell Brawl in both America (GTA's strongest market) and PAL (Super Smash's weakest market).
Choose one that actually seems likely, like a game from the Wii series. |
Brawl's rate in US isn't that far behind GTA: SA's previous run, not to mention the controversy over the "Hot Cofee mod" may have boosted sales. (There was no Melee info in the database except for Japan).
The Wii is only aproximately 5.69mil behind of both COMBINED consoles, with a large chunk of Wii's in Japan, unlike the 360, and somewhat PS3 (leading brawl to sell more in Japan, and GTAIV to sell more in US). One reason the GTA seies has sold so well is that the PS2 was the domineering console at the time, which is no longer true with the PS3 (most of the pople addicted to the GTA series are on the PS3), or 360.
Also While Brawl's sales were not extremely overwhelming, it will have lengthened sales due to the increase of Wii purchases, The fact that it "Skipped" Christmas (since the game is rated T, unlike GTA4 [M], it will probably result in more Christmas sales) all contributed to a sales-growth-stunt.
Also, lack of advertising. Brawl had some advertising. I have yet to see ANY advertising today outside of Blockbuster posters. Brawl had commercials. I sawone, and it also had a Blockbuster poster. GTA is a "core" game. Not hardcore-exclusive, but not casual. Brawl is hardcore-casual. It appeals to the masses, with characters, and the hardcore, with gameplay. Both kinds need advertising, but "core" markets require more, see Halo's ad capmaign.
Not to mention, People will be more willing to pick up a $250 Wii to play Brawl, over $350 - $600 console to play GTA4. That's an investment. Although that is less true with the 360 (big current library), The PS3 is an investment (fewer good games out, software attachment is the lowest). Sure, some will buy an arcade, but when they see a premium for only $70 more, a $280 arcade seems like a rip-off.
My point is, don't act like it's impossible. Unlikely, maybe, but impossible, no. Everyone doubted me when I said the DS would outsell the PSP (even the Moviephone guy thought it would be PS3 vs. 360 with Wii for 3rd). Then I predicted the Wii would jumpstart and become the best-selling console, and with both of those predictions, I beat the odds.
