Nice read. Well put together and has good quotes from all parties.
Sony is like the kid at the candy store that wants the chocolate, candy bars, ding dongs you name it, they want it all. Nintendo just sticks with the basics and that is their gameplan. They are the kid that just goes in for the hershey bar, which just ain't gonna go out of style.
I didn't realize the story was on the cover, that's huge!
Ah come on, where are VGChartz resident Xbots and Sony fanboys? Kotaku's comment section on this story was far more hilarious than this thread. Half of the Xbots are prepping the kool-aid and the other half are making Goebbels from the Berlin bunker style pronouncements of ultimate victory. Maybe the Prophet from High Charity as the Flood invades pronouncement of ultimate victory would be more accurate and better known. Anyways, what remains of the Sony fanbase couldn't seem to decide whether they should laugh at the Xbots who are only now realizing they will suffer the same fate as them or get in the kool-aid line.
Seriously though, other than calling the competition (saying is winning, or will likely win would have been much better) Fortune isn't saying anything exceptional here. The Wii is the only system that will have a mass market price, is the cheapest system to develop for, is outselling the PS3 and 360 combined, is profitable, is innovative, etc. etc. That just means the Wii is extremely likely to be in first place sales wise and probbaly by a wide margin. It doesn't mean the PS3 and 360 won't have plenty of great games or won't spawn successors (remains to be seen if both do though), it just means they will be the GameCube and Xbox of this generation.
I'm surprised that nothing was done for the blu ray DVD....oh well, blu ray is coming along fine anyway
People can have varying opinions of the specifics of the article. But there is no denying this is great free publicity. It's great whenever you can get free advertising that puts your company in a positive spotlight.
For a few weeks at least, whenever someome glances at a news rack, they will see:
Dang NOW I see it. I just saw the article after a friend sent it to me and I put the whole thing up (pictures and all) in the Gaming Discussion section. The Source told me there he already transcribed it and here it is right here. Sorry about all that guys. I been writing stories all day long and haven't been paying attention to the threads today. I might just have to buy that magazine though. Cool cover! John Lucas

I hope that you missed a he in the first sentence. Did you own the gameboy player? Did you need another powercable? I might import on from USA soon.
The gameboy cable made it possible to conect the gameboy with the gamecube, as starcraftmaniac says above there was some games that you realy wanted to play with four gameboys. Zelda Four Swords was one. But you also had FFCC (I think). You could also get games and extras from the GC game to your gameboy, Wario gave some Wario minigames, Metroid gave Metroid 1. So no Nintendo were there before Sony. As StarcraftManiac already pointed out there was also gameboy player which alowed yourself to play gameboy games on GC. I am still a little disapointed on myself for not buying that hardware. |
I got one of those! I knew it wouldn't be around for long so I bought it $50 USD right from my now-former (damn Gamestop) Rhino's game store. It's pretty cool and actually keeps the Gamecube around since the footprint won't fit the Wii. Not that I get rid of any of my systems anyhow.

I think it's far too early to say that the Wii has won. They still are not ahead of the 360, (Even though they are selling like hotcakes right now). A proper title may have been "Wii is off to a hot start" or something to that effect. Sure, the Wii is selling alot right now and at a good pace. But it's far too early to tell if it will continue at that pace, pick up, or lose steam. What happens when alot of Sony fans pick up the PS3 because they are waiting for a price drop, certain games, saving up money, etc? What if the 360 just goes threw the roof this fall/winter? It's a great advertising/promotional piece about the Wii and won't hurt them. However, what if in 5 years the Wii ends up in 2nd/3rd place behind xbox and sony? It could happen, but I'm not betting on any of the systems yet to stake out its dominance. 2008/9 will be the best time to judge fairly who will end up ahead this generation. Anything now is just premature.
