Forums - Gaming - Bioshock Coming To PS3 This September?

I don't know if this has been posted, I didn't read all the posts as it seems to be 1 big argument.

http://www.ps3center.net/story-1234-2K-Games-Says-No-BioShock-for-PS3.html

Its from November last year.

A moderator over at the Official 2K Games forum over at 2KGames.com has come out and stated that there will be no PS3 version of BioShock.

He was very straight forward with the way he addressed the situation.

The post on the forums stated ’Please don’t tell me you made an account just for this question ... There will be no PS3 version of BioShock. It has been explained time and time again."

To be fair, forum moderators aren't going to be kept in the know about that sort of thing.

We have already seen from DMC4 that games that have their roots in PS2 exclusivity sell better (relative to userbase) on the PS3. Whilst I don't think MGS4 would sell poorly on the 360 were it too hit the console on a similar date to the PS3 version (which, clearly, is not going to happen) it would not sell nearly as well as the PS3 version, relative to userbase.

I just have a problem with your DMC4 argument.

It didn't sell better relative to the userbase, it outsold the 360 version despite it's userbase. A system with 6.5 million more consoles sold than the other one, was outsold by the other one. So it wasn't relative, it was actual.

BioShock coming to the PS3 would sell only as well as it sold on the XBOX 360, at max, but most likely less. But it doesn't change the fact that the game would sell because it's a good game, that PS3 owners should play, and has the DLC, which would be great, especially at a smaller price tag (~$40).

I don't see why this wouldn't happen.

But you see that just reinforces my point.  DMC4 sold TREMENDOUSLY well on the PS3 relative to the userbase.  And it released on both console's simultaneously.  But as I've said, Bioshock coming to the PS3 now would be better comparable to Virtua Fighter 5 coming to the Xbox 360 months after the PS3.

VF5 on PS3=.50 million

VF5 on 360=.14 million

(triple the numbers in accordance with the 360's Bioshock sales)

Bioshock on 360= 1.7 million

Bioshock on PS3= .5 million MAX

The reality would probably be somewhat less than that given the shooter competition on the PS3 (whereas VF5 on 360 only had to compete with DOA4, a launch game), additional time between the releases etc etc

So how about success stories?

RE4 PS2, and RE4 Wii, which both sold as well, if not better than RE4 gamecube, and RE4 Wii is a port of a three year old game.

There is a couple of links about Bioshock being exclusive.  I agree they don't completely knock out the possibility of a PS3 version, but it makes one less likely, particularly the part about Microsoft paying for exclusivity.

Fair point.  The argument would be that that was cross-generational, and most PS2 umpgraders are going to the Wii.  Somehow, I think Bioshock would fit somewhere in between RE4 and VF5.

Still, I see what your saying.

I think it is safe to say the Bioshock is probably not going to come out on anything but a Microsoft platform.

But it is also safe to say that everyone will be playing (or have the chance) to play the sequel.

Yes, it appears even on the Wii.

It will cost them a lot to put it on the Wii. It uses the unreal engine (I assume the second one will too), and Epic has no plans to make the unreal engine for the Wii. In fact, they said they never will.

So bioshock for the Wii would need to be a ground up development project.

A Wii version wouldn't cost anywhere near the cost of the HD title though.

In any case, I'm pretty sure 2K said they were working on another game didn't they?

In any case, I think all these rumours are particularly weak.  Here is one with just as much (as in not much) credibility:

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/2679.html

"In addition, they apparently have info that says Bioshock 2 will not be a multiplatform title. Evidently, Microsoft paid "big bucks" to keep the sequel exclusive to the 360, which isn't exactly shocking after Bioshock's immense success late last year. This will disappoint many a PS3 owner, though; most were probably hoping 2K Boston would include the PS3 with their next project."

In the end it doesn't really matter. It's 100% guaranteed to come out for the PC, and that's the best platform to play it on. If it came out for every console known to man, I would play it on the same thing I played the first one on.

My PC :)

And it is likely Microsoft will allow the exclusive DLC to be included in the PC version, so you'll probably get lucky.
