Forums - Gaming - The state of the video game industry 2026 presentation.

Engagement as a metric is stupid. Whether I play a game for 50 hours or 1000 hours the point is I spent $70 on it. And games like Fortnite and Roblox are complete rip-offs with microtransactions out the wazoo. Gen Alpha will probably live at home their entire lives due to being unemployable, so this idea that regular games will go away in a few decades is silly. Millennials/Gen X will have all the money and jobs by then as baby boomers die off. Gen Z is currently so broke that their paycheck hits their bank account and after rent/food/car it's competely gone instantly. They have almost no disposable income. Gen alpha will be even worse off.

More surprised that Fortnite isnt bigger than Valve's outings (CSGO, DOTA2, etc).

Thanks for sharing. Eye-opening stuff, reminds me of Reed Hastings (Netflix CEO) saying that their competitor is not Disney nor HBO, but sleep. Surprised about Fortnite's "low numbers" as well.
