PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S Sales Comparison - September 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S both launched in November 2020. The PlayStation 5 launched November 12, 2020 in North America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, and the rest of the world on November 19, 2020. The Xbox Series X|S launched worldwide on November 10, 2020.

September 2025 is the 59th month the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 1.01 million units.

In the last 12 months, the PlayStation 5 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 14.09 million units. The PlayStation 5 is currently ahead by 46.57 million units.

The PlayStation 5 has sold 90.25 million units in 59 months, while the Xbox Series X|S sold 33.68 million units. The PlayStation 5 has a 70.4 percent marketshare (+2.9% year-over-year), compared to 29.6 percent for the Xbox Series X|S (-2.9% year-over-year).

This monthly series compares the combined aligned sales of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with the combined aligned sales of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

Switch vs DS Sales Comparison - September 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo DS.

The DS launched in November 2004 in North America, December 2004 in Japan, and March 2005 in Europe, while the Nintendo Switch launched worldwide in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

September 2025 is the 103rd month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for. During the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Switch by 0.25 million units when compared to the DS during the same timeframe.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the DS by 5.58 million units. The DS is ahead of the Switch by 1.49 million units.

The 103rd month on sale for the Nintendo Switch is September 2025, while for the DS it is May 2013. The Switch has sold 152.06 million units, while the DS sold 153.55 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo DS sold 154.02 million units lifetime. The Nintendo Switch is currently 1.96 million units behind the lifetime sales of the DS.

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 and the PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

September 2025 is the 4th month that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for. During the latest month, the Switch 2 has outsold the PlayStation 5 by 0.12 million units when you align the launches. The Switch 2 is ahead of the PS5 by 3.21 million units.

The 4th month for the Switch 2 is September 2025, while for the PS5 it is February 2021. The Switch 2 has sold 9.30 million units, while the PS5 sold 6.09 million units during the same timeframe.

The PlayStation 5 sold 81.21 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 71.91 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PS5.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

September 2025 is the 4th month the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for. During the latest month, the Switch 2 has outsold the Switch 1 by 0.47 million units when you align the launches. The Switch 2 is now ahead of the Switch 1 by 5.10 million units.

The 4th month for the Switch 2 is September 2025, while for the Switch 1 it is June 2017. The Switch 2 has sold 9.30 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 4.20 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 152.06 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 142.76 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.
