Jak 3. This game was like a very good all you can eat buffet gameplay wise. It did everything, and it did it all great. It was a 3D platformer, an open world sandbox experience, it had third person shooter mechanics, vehicle sections, magical powers, a good story for what it was, great soundtrack, good graphics, lots of side missions and optional challenges that unlocked very cool stuff...
It was THE game for me. And it still is.

It's just pure magic. It's one of the most immersive, evocative, and atmospheric games I've every played, thanks to its crumbling, ancient setting and masterful use of space and emptiness, but what I admire most about it is how the emotional connection between its two main characters serves narrative and mechanical purposes. The gameplay is the story, and the story is the gameplay.
Impossible to pick just one. Even more impossible if you include games that, when launched, were exclusive to their platform. So many young people today don't realize that games like FF, MGS, RE, GTA, Silent Hill, and so many others, were basically "Playstation" games. The lock on third party titles during the PS2 generation alone was staggering.
Sly 2: Band of Thieves
The amazing blend of 3D platforming and stealth gameplay was already addictive in the first game, and the sequel perfected the formula, now with more playable characters. Match that with a jazzy soundtrack, more open environments for player freedom on completing missions, a much more fleshed out story with a film noir look to it, and you've got an all-time classic! Never gets old.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind
Uncharted 2, I rarely play games a 2nd time, I've played through it at least 5 times. Just the perfect paced and fun game. I had the PS2, but the Gamecube was my favorite console of that generation. Uncharted 2 was the Sony game during the PS3 that really got me into the Playstation brand and put them closer to Nintendo status for me.

Bloodborne if it counts. Uncharted 2 or The Last of Us if it doesn't.
Those are my 3 favorite games in general. I love them for very different reasons, and they're very close. I think I love The Last of Us more for story reasons, and Uncharted 2 more for gameplay reasons.
The Last of Us is an emotional hard hitting story right from the opening. The companionship isn't perfect, but it hits a lot of feels.
I love Uncharted 2's gameplay. Everything controls the way I expect it to. And I've played the game all the way through 17 times throughout the years. And it's never let me down.

This. From the music to the gameplay and visuals. They released a PS2 game on PS1 in 1999. It's great in every way. One of the better mech actions games even now. Best one of it's era and I love Bulk Slash. From the makers of the GT series. I don't use this term often. This is their masterpiece.

Uncharted 2.
It was a real adventure start to finish. Great graphics, game play and cinema with fun story and characters. It was truly a game that kept players entertained.
