Forums - Nintendo - Flop or Not 08 Edition

After reading through the flop or not predictions thread, that is a bit outdated, I've decided to make the 2008 edition for people's predictions on what games will do well and what won't. I'd like to thank Benga for the list of 2008 Wii releases (and his pictures) and Joora for the original idea.

First off I'm not gonna include Mario Kart cause it's coming out tommorow and we all know it's going to sell well. Most of the games here are going to be 3rd party since we know Nintendo 1st party tends to do well. So we begin with

Monster Lab Wii - ???

According to Benga the release date is May 2 however some list it as 9/16, so I'm not too sure when the release date is...The game looks decent and could attract some of the RPG hungry Wii owners, however if the 9/16 release date is correct than it seems that Star Wars the Force Unleashed will also be released in the same week which could really hurt the sales. I think it will have mediocre/poor sales depending on how well it is advertised, not to mention being released next to Force Unleashed is not a good thing...

Boom Blox - FLOP

I dunno about you guys but the last time I enjoyed Spielburg was...I don't even remember...MIB2? After they removed the head tracking feature I'm not too sure if anyone's happy with how the game is coming along, I know I'm not. I think this game will be a flop considering it's from EA make that a double flop.

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World - HIT

I am an avid Tales fan, I have every Tales game relased in America, even on portables and I've watched the anime countless times. I really hope this game does well and I strongly believe it will easily be a million seller from the GC fanbase. My opinion is that this title will definitely be a hit and Namco will be happy with the sales.

Fatal Frame IV - HIT

I believe the Fatal Frame name will be good enough for this game to sell not to mention Suda's followers including me are probably going to buy it. With Suda behind this I really don't think this game can go wrong even though the previous titles are only on Xbox and PS2.

Deadly Creatures - ???

This game looks promising, the graphics are good but Rainbow Studios...they mostly develop racing games such as Star Wars Revenge Racer, MX vs ATV Unleashed, Cars, ect. I don't see a single action/adventure game they've developed so it will be interesting how it comes out. I myself will pick up this title just to see how it is but sales wise I have no idea how it will do. Not to mention spiders and insects scare most people including me.

The Conduit - ???

Some of the graphics in this game look good, some of it look...kinda bad. But the game is still in development so I'm sure the final product will have polish hopefully. I think the game will do well, but looking at sales of Medal of Honor Heroes makes me second guess myself. I'm thinking this game will sell well due to it's good graphics for a Wii game. Everyone says gameplay > graphics, but once in a while I'm sure everyone likes to play a nice looking game.

Anywho this is all the time I have for now, feel free to add other games in like Fragile etc. and please give your opinions on how you think these games will do and correct any mistakes I've made. If you found this thread a waste of your time than sorry ;_; if not I'll add more games to discuss.

Monster Lab Wii - Semi-hit

I think it has a chance to hit a million, depending on marketing and how good the final game actually turns out to be. Until reviews come in its hard to tell. It's an interesting idea so I think it'll do decently, should do 250k easily, if not 500k

Boom Blox - Hit

I know I'm semi dissappointed that head tracking won't be in it, but I think the majority of people who would want this, or do want this, won't really care. It was an easter egg thing anyway, so it probably wouldn't have been implemented as well as some would have liked anyway. And do we have actual, solid evidence that it won't include it? But to those that this game markets to, the Mario Kart like crowd, I don't think it'll matter.

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World - HIT

I'll take your word for it.

Fatal Frame IV - HIT

It depends on what the last ones did (there's no sales data for them). But I expect it to do as well as previous games have done, though it might take longer to get to that point.

Deadly Creatures - ???

Really depends on how good the game is, and how well the controls work. Good game probably means hit (million+), bad game or poor controls (or both), probably 250k

The Conduit - ???

ADVERTISING. If the game is good, then a little advertising can go a long way. Should do better than Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 (not a WWII shooter), especially if it has a better story-line, fewer bugs (no bugs would be best), and equal online and controls. This could do a million, though it really depends on marketing.

@Gramhsu

Please define "flop."

@konnichiwa do you agree that about Lucas making nothing good recently or about my hit or flop? lol

@stever89 I still don't boom blox is gonna hit especially with it so close to Mario Kart Wii most people are going to ignore it, but that's just my opinion, do you think Mario Kart Wii will affect potential Boom Blox buyers or are they in a completely different market?

@blusinG A flop can have many different definitions for many people. For me a flop is if the developer sells lower than expected, doesn't make a profit, or barely makes any profit from the game. I'm not an economist and it would be appreciated if someone with the right knowledge could give a detailed definition of a flop.
