Forums - Gaming - Do you expect the Wii to end up being THE JRPG console this gen?

the difference between the PS2 and the GameCube and Xbox is much smaller than the difference between the PS3 and Wii this time around, but again, we where talking about the main series of Final Fantasy and FF14, which will come after FF13 which will set a new standard for visuals in the series and maybe for visuals of the PS3... and in this particular case a next installment going to the Wii is something different than like Suikoden or Mana going to Wii..

Yes the Wii will be ahead of all genres except for FPS and racers exclusives.

Why does graphics make the deciding factor anyway? The PS2 was the weakest system last gen, yet had all the major FFs. If you optimize the graphics, the Wii can produce very stunning visuals. The HD audience will be disappointed but the average gamer will not care. Personally the graphics between the best looking PS3 and Wii game will not persuade a developer to give away the amount of profit that will be made between releasing it on PS3 rather than Wii.

Who's to say that if FF14 did come out on the wii it would appeal to everybody that owns a wii and that the PS3 would not see the same amount of copies sold as the wii would.

Wii will be the prime console for JRPGs. It controls nearly 70% of the Japanese market. Why would it not be the main choice?

And for those of you saying that Square would value graphics over money, get your heads out of your asses. Square went to the PS1 not for the better graphics or for a more cinematic experience, but because discs were cheaper, development cost less, and it brought more profits. Ultimately, like almost every other company, Square cares most about the bottom line. The Wii would be the best business move, and though I do not anticipate Final Fantasy going to the Wii, it still would not shock me, and most of their other RPGs will go to the Wii.

but taking the whole genre in to view, of course it makes sense for the Wii too get more and more RPGs.. but for now Square's The Last Remnant is only coming to the PS3 and 360..... but also Sould Calubur IV is still not announced for the Wii, so there are more titles that still don't make it to the Wii eventhough it's so popular..

Huh, Capcom seemed to have made a similar risk by moving Monster Hunter 3 to the Wii. Apparently they feel if the game is good, Wii owners will gobble it up. And if the PS3 version would actually have to sell more copies the than the Wii version as it takes much more money to develop for.

It's pretty hard to say at this point, since the most popular console (Wii) has the weakest JRPG line-up, the PS3 the best line-up and the worst selling console (360) has the most JRPGs out right now.

Developers are waiting for that one JRPG that sells systems and gets the whole RPG train going, since its clearly still running on the PS2. The most logical bet would be FFXIII. That title will probably result in the PS3 having the biggest RPG fanbase. So my bet goes to the PS3.

^^it aint much, if it aint dutch^^

Square went with PS1 because because of the limitations on the N64 and wanted to do something bigger than what the N64 was offering not because of money.

yes - Wii will most likely have the most

Moster Hunter is no Final Fantasy, FF13 will set, besides other things, a visual standard on the PS3, certainly for the series, it's in a different situation than Monster Hunter, Suikoden, Mana, Star Ocean or whatever other series..

I agree.  Some of these Wii fanboys need to remember what Wada said himself.  He clearly stated that he was going to care more about the international market more than the Japanese market (wordwide release, etc.).   If FF XIII sells 6-8 mil. copies, I don't think they will change for their main series.  With bundles worldwide and worldwide release on the same day, I don't see it being impossible.  Most of the sales come from outside of Japan anyway.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
