Forums - Gaming - Do you expect the Wii to end up being THE JRPG console this gen?

Actually - I'm thinking I'm the only one with high hopes for FF:CC CB.

I'd much rather it have an intense epic story far superior to FF7 and they dramatic high's and lows of Tactics, then I'd think FF:CC would finally be worthy of being the new mainstream FF. Because I personally do preffer the Crystal games over
the mainstream since FFX.

But I'm not trying to turn this into a which FF was better or when did FF die, just saying...

I think I'm the only one who sees the possibility of that happening.

Hmmm. I'm going to repeat what I said before: It's likely that FF will never go to the Wii, unless it bombs hard on the Wii. But I still think SE will develop a non-spin off (in other words, a new IP) RPG for the Wii, because there's going to be demand for it there. And if they don't, some other company (like I said on the last page) that might be on the brink of bankruptcy, will make one last RPG game for the Wii, and it will sell gangbusters, and then might become the new standard for RPGs. It would be poor business to allow a competitor to just walk into a market that will sooner or later demand a real RPG and just take it. DQS, a spin off (of a spin off I have heard), did 500k in Japan. There's demand there for a RPG. It would be silly to not "tap" that. Whether it's with a main FF game or a new IP is debatable. I would have to say new IP since Nintendo already relies too much on sequels.

we will see if Square Enix decides to put Star Ocean 4 also on the Wii, the Last Remnant isn't coming..

no, I'm saying that the visual standard is having a function besides being pretty, it's a style, it's how Square presents their FF worlds

Now you're just not making any sense. Every game generally has their own style but does it powerful hardware to do it? No, it doesn't. But is the FF series all about looks now? That's why you're saying SE won't develope FFXIV or whatever for the Wii? Because it won't look as good. I didn't that was why people play Final Fantasy games. I guess I was wrong.

don't you want to understand it, or do you really not understand what I mean? ... I think I've made myself clear enough regarding the style of the FF series, and how great visuals are a manner of Square to show their artwork and present their worlds and story's in a certain manner,....................... of course you can comment on this with a shallow reply saying that I say that the series is about the grafix now, but that's just not reading what I say well...

And I would reply, what makes the Wii incapable of displaying the style of the game? You act as if the PS3 is the only console that can display these "visual styles". True, it would look better than a Wii version but the SE can make the art style anyway they want on the Wii, too. But if your argument is it can't come to the Wii because it'll look better on the PS3, then yes, you're all about graphics.

Oh Ajax remember when they announce PS3 games chances are it's been in development for about a year to two years already,
it's probably been in the pipeplines for even longer as preperations and investments were made to place it
on that platform.

So it's unfair to say Game X is from 3rd party Y and exclusive on Platform B thus Platform A isn't a possibility in Y's
business objectives for subsequent titles derived from Game X.

Saying graphics is about as baseless as saying money, unless your SE's accountant you can only guess.

Let's look at it this way, "it would be nice to see Game X on [insert your favorite console here]".

Then ego defender who has fried their heart into their system of choices mother board says, "well, yea that would be nice".

PS3 - JRPGs on the PS3 as for domination is not going to happen until games cost less than the market can produce.
Xbox360- Lol? Micro's got a lot of paddling to do up this waterfall.
Wii - Who knows, who cares, but they got it the easiest at the moment. While some otakus are buying their core games, their moms, other otakus and sisters are buying wii's. Who has the time in japan for a long jrpg? Otakus. But since the markets choosing other routes RPGs might not get noticed quite as much without some kind of gradual acceptance route.

But on all these systems, you guys seemed to forget the one case which should be in point - RPGs or JRPG it still has to be fun, and marketed properly.

I would bet that IF FF:CC be marketed as hard as Wiisports or harder than FFXIII that it will sell more than FFXIII.

FF isn't about a visual standard or art anymore, it's not even about story all the above fall second to "...looks cool..." mentality.

Oh and Ajax are you saying it's impossible for the Wii to show any form of "artwork" or that Square is too inept to do the deed,
without "teh Cell" or HD, or like that other guy believes "Blu-Ray"?

I'm not even arguing it, I just want to "lol" really.

arguing subjective things and wining is pointless and difficult for me.

There will be no clear cut winner. I predict that Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, and Shin Megami Tensei go to the PS3, Mana, Suikoden, Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts going to the Wii, and the 360 with new IPs along with the occasional established franchise(ie. Tales of Vesperia), along with some multiplatform JRPGs here and there

we will see whether FF14 gets announced for the Wii or not..
