Forums - Gaming - Do you expect the Wii to end up being THE JRPG console this gen?

It's pretty hard to say at this point, since the most popular console (Wii) has the weakest JRPG line-up, the PS3 the best line-up and the worst selling console (360) has the most JRPGs out right now.

Developers are waiting for that one JRPG that sells systems and gets the whole RPG train going, since its clearly still running on the PS2. The most logical bet would be FFXIII. That title will probably result in the PS3 having the biggest RPG fanbase. So my bet goes to the PS3.

You are forgetting that most developers bet on the PS3 to win, thus why FFXIII is on PS3 instead of Wii. The 360 has the most at the moment because they BOUGHT them.

It is only logical to put your game on the system with the biggest userbase which has more possibilities to sell it. A good 3rd party game on the Wii will sell, this has been already proven.

but why isn't Sould Calibur IV coming to the Wii? the Wii's userbase is the highest and Sould Calibur III was released on the GC, after the PS2 release, but this time the PS3 and 360 are getting it together, so why not also the Wii?

@totalwar23-MH failed on the PS2 so it would be logical to bring it to a next gen platform that would appeal to all the markets, riding on the success of MH for the PSP.

do rpg-gamers want to swing with the wii-mote for hours? rpg play sessions aren't the shortest you know..

Why would you have to swing the Wiimote in an RPG?

Why do you have to swing your arm during any Wii game. Honestly you can do that any Wii game but conversely you don't have to and when you don't you will find you can control the game better faster easier and so forth. Though it was the thing that made the super repetative Godfather barable.

Because it makes it easier to hit other people, animals or furniture. With casual wrist flicks you'll have a hard time hitting anything and if you hit, it doesn't cause massive damage even if you hit the weak spot of your target.

Casual wrist flicks can often lead to muscle pain if repeated too much within a short time period.  Rocketpig has learned this recently.

Moster Hunter is no Final Fantasy, FF13 will set, besides other things, a visual standard on the PS3, certainly for the series, it's in a different situation than Monster Hunter, Suikoden, Mana, Star Ocean or whatever other series..

Have you seen how well Monster Hunter have sold on Sony consoles, yet Capcom switched to the Wii due to costs. It is pretty much a system seller now.

Oh so apparently, Final Fantasy is all about the visuals now.

I guess all the PS3 people are just buying games to gawk at the pretty graphics.

MH was a new IP on the PS2 but since then has gained massive popularity in Japan. Take a look at how much the damn game increase PSP sales. If it was released the PS3, it would probably do the same. In any case, Nintendo gamers are not familiar with the game yet Capcom decided to release it on the Wii anyways. That tell you something?

Yes the Wii will be ahead of all genres except for FPS and racers exclusives.

Why does graphics make the deciding factor anyway? The PS2 was the weakest system last gen, yet had all the major FFs. If you optimize the graphics, the Wii can produce very stunning visuals. The HD audience will be disappointed but the average gamer will not care. Personally the graphics between the best looking PS3 and Wii game will not persuade a developer to give away the amount of profit that will be made between releasing it on PS3 rather than Wii.

Who's to say that if FF14 did come out on the wii it would appeal to everybody that owns a wii and that the PS3 would not see the same amount of copies sold as the wii would.

I agree.  Some of these Wii fanboys need to remember what Wada said himself.  He clearly stated that he was going to care more about the international market more than the Japanese market (wordwide release, etc.).   If FF XIII sells 6-8 mil. copies, I don't think they will change for their main series.  With bundles worldwide and worldwide release on the same day, I don't see it being impossible.  Most of the sales come from outside of Japan anyway.

To sell 6 million copies, there needs to be an attach rate of about 50%. That means one of every two PS3 owners would buy it. Hopeful thinking much?

FFX had sold about 8 million on a console with a userbase of more than 120 million.

Hopeful much?

for FF it's not about grafix, like just for the grafix, it's about a style of presenting a world and story, it's more a way of art than just showing a hardwares power for Square

Now you seem to be contradicting yourself. first you imply the PS3's hardware was needed so FFXIV can set a visual standard because the Wii simply can't display good graphics and now you say it's not about graphics but about the art style?

My internet disconnected in the process of posting, and caused a double post.

no, I'm saying that the visual standard is having a function besides being pretty, it's a style, it's how Square presents their FF worlds
