Used Wii, with 3 games outside of Wii Sports... going for around 350... with plenty of time left no less.

So you should be good.

Just keep in mind your used 360 is probably going to get you sub 150. So you'll be costing yourself some money then you would by just selling the Wii and saving it till your 360 is back.  Is GTA worth $200+ to you?

For those not in the know it takes Microsoft five to seven days to deliver your cardboard coffin, and then its somewhere around twenty days until you get your console back. Given the timing I would see my 360 until late May or early June. The machine will be fixed and returned. My warranty is good especially since it is the RROD.

My Wii just isn't an acceptable gaming alternative at the moment. I considered picking up Galaxy to tide me over, but the reality is that platforming games have almost no replay for me. I play them once, and lay them aside to collect dust. Thats about the only gaming option that will not run me a hundred dollars. I could go retro but thats a poor alternative to modern gaming.

Wow...this is not how it happens here in Canada. 2 of my freinds sent their 360's in and they had new ones within 2 weeks. They din't know and don't care what happened with the old ones...

One friend even got 2 units back by mistake... :)

Oh yikes. Refurbished cores go for like... NOTHING on ebay.

Seems like you'd be better off trading the thing into a gamestop or something... Or just keeping in incase your other 360 RROD's.

The biggest bid is $33 with 8 hours left. Damn. If i wasn't in the same situation as you i'd jump on that despite moving in with someone with a 360 soon.

So keep in mind you'll basically get nothing back from this other then like... a few extra weeks of 360 play... unless Gamestop gives you a decent deal.

Still for you, it may be worth it.

How much is the game worth, and how much is the console not being used worth. That is the two hundred dollar question it appears. Regardless I will be forking money out of my wallet next week. I set aside a week of vacation that corresponded to the release of Grand Theft Auto.

The problem with my Wii is that at the moment it seems to have no real value to me beyond the status symbol, and a distant option for entertainment. Worse yet nobody else in my household will play with the machine. Nobody has touched it in going on six months.

The consensus though is that the machine could probably fetch me $200. That is actually pretty good retained value. All consoles lose value after use like a car. Perhaps if I bring it to the local Gamestop and balance the incentives properly I might do even better. Anyone know what the general trade in value for the console is at places like Gamestop.

I would just hold out and wait for your 360 to get back. It's not as if GTA IV is going to disappear in three weeks.

@Dodece

Don't take the wii to gamestop as you wont get good value for the system. I don't know where you live but if you live in a major city, a site like "craigslist" or ebay will fetch you 300 minimum for a used wii if you sell it privately. Gamestop are assholes...

Indeed. If you sell the whole thing online with the games you bought you will likely be able to have enough money to buy an Arcade just for the price of the Wii... possibly with some money left over for an Xbox points card.

Like I said the only problem is that you are going to get absolutley nothing for your refurbished 360... i'd just keep it... and if you have other people in your household put it on another TV.  Or like my one friend did with the Xbox.  Two TVs... Two Xboxs... that way during FPS you can't look at your opponents screens in split screen play.

Yeah, I'm a little confused. So, your current 360 is getting repaired?

Uh, I'd just wait till you got it back from the shop. I'm not sure why you'd trade in your Wii to get a 360 in the meantime that your old one is being fixed, and then trade in your old 360 when you get it. Huh?

I know people who've done it. Well except for the Wii part. They just bought a new 360 while their old was was being fixed.

Of course i also know someone who bought a 360, traded it in, bought a 360, sold it to a friend, then bought a 360 yet again.

So they bought the same system 3 times.

Weird. I don't understand why you'd waste the money. Buy a system, sell at a loss, buy another system, sell at a loss..... Why not just stick with the system you have. I mean, I'm not short on funds for my hobby, but I'm not going to purposely waste money.

And I guess it's personal preference Dodece, but just wait a month, find other things to do in your spare time if you are so opposed to the Wii. Why lose out on so much money. Even if you want to trade in the Wii because you never play it. Trade it in then, and get 360 games from that money. And wait a month for your 360. Rather than lose money on trading in both a Wii and your old 360

QFT

If you end up with two 360, do you have any potential buyer for the second one?

Just wait, patience.

how about buying one or two GC gems to pass the time if 1 Wii title isn't enough?
