PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in Japan - April 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020 in Japan, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 Japan:

Gap change in latest month: 37,536 - PS4

Gap change over last 12 months: 589,727 - PS4

Total Lead: 249,654 - PS4

PlayStation 5 Total Sales: 6,827,022

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 7,076,676

April 2025 is the 54th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 37,536 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.59 million units. The PS5 is currently behind the PS4 by 0.25 million units.

The 54th month for the PS5 in Japan is April 2025, while for the PS4 it is July 2018. The PS5 has sold 6.83 million units, while the PS4 sold 7.08 million units during the same timeframe.

The PS4 crossed 8 million in month 61, 8.5 million in month 68, and 9 million in month 72. The PS4 sold 9.68 million units lifetime. The PS5 is currently 2.85 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PS4 in Japan.

Xbox Series X|S vs Xbox 360 Sales Comparison in Japan - April 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned sales of the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox 360 in Japan, as well as looking at lifetime original Xbox sales and Xbox One sales.

The Xbox Series X|S launched in Japan in November 2020, while the Xbox 360 launched in Japan in December 2005. The original Xbox launched in Japan in February 2002 and the Xbox One in September 2014.

XSX|S Vs. X360 Japan:

Gap change in latest month: 12,749 - X360

Gap change over last 12 months: 146,759 - X360

Total Lead: 628,619 - X360

Xbox Series X|S Total Sales: 677,485

Xbox 360 Total Sales: 1,306,104

April 2025 is the 54th month the Xbox Series X|S has been available for in Japan. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Xbox 360 when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 12,749 units.

In the last 12 months, the Xbox 360 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 0.15 million units. The Xbox 360 is currently ahead by 0.63 million units.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.68 million units in 54 months, while the Xbox 360 sold 1.31 million units. Month 54 for the Xbox Series X|S is April 2025 and for the Xbox 360 is May 2010.

The Xbox 360 crossed 1.4 million units in month 59 and 1.5 million units in month 67. The Xbox 360 sold 1.66 million units lifetime. The Xbox Series X|S is 0.98 million units behind lifetime Xbox 360 sales.

April 2025 is the 54th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 87,268 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS5 has outsold the PS4 by 109,772 units. The PS5 is currently ahead of the PS4 by 1.53 million units.

The PS5 has sold 25.81 million units in 54 months, while the PS4 sold 24.28 million units. Month 54 for the PS5 is April 2025 and for the PS4 is April 2018.

The PS4 crossed 25 million in month 57 and 30 million in month 71. The PS4 sold 34.93 million units lifetime in the US. The PS5 is 9.12 million units behind lifetime PS4 sales in the US.

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S both launched in November 2020. The Xbox Series X|S launched in the US on November 10, 2020, and the PlayStation 5 on November 12, 2020.

Xbox Series X|S Total Sales: 17,050,878

April 2025 is the 54th month the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 117,379 units.

In the last 12 months, the PlayStation 5 has outsold Xbox Series X|S by 2.95 million units. The PlayStation 5 is currently ahead by 8.76 million units.

The PlayStation 5 has sold 25.81 million units in the US in 54 months, while the Xbox Series X|S sold 17.05 million units. The PlayStation 5 has a 60.2 percent marketshare (+1.8% year-over-year), compared to 39.8 percent for the Xbox Series X|S (-1.8% year-over-year).

The PlayStation 5 is currently 1.53 million units ahead the PlayStation 4 in the US when you align launches, while the Xbox Series X|S is behind the Xbox One by 4.26 million.

Switch vs DS Sales Comparison in the US - April 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo DS.

The DS launched in November 2004 in the US, while the Nintendo Switch launched in the US in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

Switch Vs. DS US:

Gap change in latest month: 564,742 - DS

Gap change over last 12 months: 648,355 - Switch

Total Lead: 5,250,347 - DS

Switch Total Sales: 47,949,590

DS Total Sales: 53,199,937

April 2025 is the 98th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for. During the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the DS by 562,742 units when compared to the Switch during the same timeframe.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the DS by 0.65 million units. The DS is ahead of the Switch by 5.25 million units.

The 98th month on sale for the Nintendo Switch is April 2025, while for the DS it is December 2012. The Switch has sold 47.95 million units, while the DS sold 53.20 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo DS sold 53.80 million units lifetime. The Nintendo Switch is currently 5.85 million units behind the lifetime sales of the DS.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.68 million units. The PS5 is currently behind the PS4 by 5.62 million units.

The PS5 has sold 25.86 million units in 54 months, while the PS4 sold 31.47 million units. Month 54 for the PS5 is April 2025 and for the PS4 is April 2018.

The PS4 crossed 35 million in month 61 and 40 million in month 72. The PS4 sold 45.86 million units lifetime in Europe. The PS5 is 20.00 million units behind lifetime PS4 sales in Europe.
