PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in Japan - March 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020 in Japan, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 Japan:

March 2025 is the 53rd month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 4 by 12,779 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.65 million units. The PS5 is currently behind the PS4 by 0.21 million units.

The 53rd month for the PS5 in Japan is March 2025, while for the PS4 it is June 2018. The PS5 has sold 6.79 million units, while the PS4 sold 7.00 million units during the same timeframe.

The PS4 crossed 8 million in month 61, 8.5 million in month 68, and 9 million in month 72. The PS4 sold 9.68 million units lifetime. The PS5 is currently 2.89 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PS4 in Japan.

Xbox Series X|S vs Xbox 360 Sales Comparison in Japan - March 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned sales of the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox 360 in Japan, as well as looking at lifetime original Xbox sales and Xbox One sales.

The Xbox Series X|S launched in Japan in November 2020, while the Xbox 360 launched in Japan in December 2005. The original Xbox launched in Japan in February 2002 and the Xbox One in September 2014.

XSX|S Vs. X360 Japan:

March 2025 is the 53rd month the Xbox Series X|S has been available for in Japan. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Xbox 360 when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 10,151 units.

In the last 12 months, the Xbox 360 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 0.14 million units. The Xbox 360 is currently ahead by 0.62 million units.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.67 million units in 53 months, while the Xbox 360 sold 1.29 million units. Month 53 for the Xbox Series X|S is March 2025 and for the Xbox 360 is April 2010.

In the last 12 months, the PS5 has outsold the PS4 by 242,011 units. The PS5 is currently ahead of the PS4 by 1.61 million units.

The PS5 has sold 25.57 million units in 53 months, while the PS4 sold 23.96 million units. Month 53 for the PS5 is March 2025 and for the PS4 is March 2018.

The PS4 crossed 25 million in month 57 and 30 million in month 71. The PS4 sold 34.93 million units lifetime in the US. The PS5 is 9.36 million units behind lifetime PS4 sales in the US.

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S both launched in November 2020. The Xbox Series X|S launched in the US on November 10, 2020, and the PlayStation 5 on November 12, 2020.

In the last 12 months, the PlayStation 5 has outsold Xbox Series X|S by 2.97 million units. The PlayStation 5 is currently ahead by 8.64 million units.

The PlayStation 5 has sold 25.57 million units in the US in 53 months, while the Xbox Series X|S sold 16.93 million units. The PlayStation 5 has a 60.2 percent marketshare (+1.9% year-over-year), compared to 39.8 percent for the Xbox Series X|S (-1.9% year-over-year).

Switch vs DS Sales Comparison in the US - March 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo DS.

The DS launched in November 2004 in the US, while the Nintendo Switch launched in the US in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

Switch Vs. DS US:

March 2025 is the 97th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for. During the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the DS by 251,991 units when compared to the Switch during the same timeframe.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the DS by 0.50 million units. The DS is ahead of the Switch by 4.69 million units.

The 97th month on sale for the Nintendo Switch is March 2025, while for the DS it is November 2012. The Switch has sold 47.86 million units, while the DS sold 52.55 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo DS sold 53.80 million units lifetime. The Nintendo Switch is currently 5.94 million units behind the lifetime sales of the DS.

This monthly series compares the aligned Europe sales of the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

The Xbox Series X|S launched in November 2020, while the Xbox One launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

March 2025 is the 53rd month the Xbox Series X|S has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Xbox One when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 58,015 units.

In the last 12 months, the Xbox One has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 1.26 million units. The Xbox Series X|S is currently behind the Xbox One by 2.13 million units.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 8.38 million units in 53 months, while the Xbox One sold 10.51 million units. Month 53 for the Xbox Series X|S is March 2025 and for the Xbox One is March 2018.

The Xbox One crossed 12 million units sold in Europe in month 62 and 14 million in month 76. The Xbox One sold 14.86 million units lifetime in Europe. The Xbox Series X|S is 6.48 million units behind lifetime Xbox One sales in Europe.

Crazy how well Xbox was doing at the beginning and then it just flatlined. Microsoft truly succeeded Sega in more ways than one.

Speaking of Sega. The Genesis / Mega Drive will be the last console the Xbox Series X|S will outsell as after that it is the SNES at 49.1M sold.
