PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in Japan - February 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020 in Japan, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 Japan:

February 2025 is the 52nd month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 4 by 64,160 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.64 million units. The PS5 is currently behind the PS4 by 0.22 million units.

The 52nd month for the PS5 in Japan is February 2025, while for the PS4 it is May 2018. The PS5 has sold 6.67 million units, while the PS4 sold 6.89 million units during the same timeframe.

The PS4 crossed 7 million in month 53, 8 million in month 61, and 9 million in month 72. The PS4 has sold 9.68 million units to date. The PS5 is currently 3.01 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PS4 in Japan.

Xbox Series X|S vs Xbox 360 Sales Comparison in Japan - February 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned sales of the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox 360 in Japan, as well as looking at lifetime original Xbox sales and Xbox One sales.

The Xbox Series X|S launched in Japan in November 2020, while the Xbox 360 launched in Japan in December 2005. The original Xbox launched in Japan in February 2002 and the Xbox One in September 2014.

February 2025 is the 52nd month the Xbox Series X|S has been available for in Japan. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Xbox 360 when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 7,203 units.

In the last 12 months, the Xbox 360 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 0.15 million units. The Xbox 360 is currently ahead by 0.61 million units.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.67 million units in 52 months, while the Xbox 360 sold 1.28 million units. Month 52 for the Xbox Series X|S is February 2025 and for the Xbox 360 is March 2010.

February 2025 is the 52nd month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 19,962 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS5 has outsold the PS4 by 0.36 million units. The PS5 is currently ahead of the PS4 by 1.62 million units.

The PS5 has sold 25.20 million units in 52 months, while the PS4 sold 23.58 million units. Month 52 for the PS5 is February 2025 and for the PS4 is February 2018.

The PS4 crossed 25 million in month 57 and 30 million in month 71. The PS4 sold 34.93 million units lifetime in the US. The PS5 is 9,73 million units behind lifetime PS4 sales in the US.

Switch vs DS Sales Comparison in the US - February 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo DS.

The DS launched in November 2004 in the US, while the Nintendo Switch launched in the US in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

Switch Vs. DS US:

February 2025 is the 96th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for. During the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Switch by 27,800 units when compared to the DS during the same timeframe.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the DS by 0.53 million units. The DS is ahead of the Switch by 4.43 million units.

The 96th month on sale for the Nintendo Switch is February 2025, while for the DS it is October 2012. The Switch has sold 47.72 million units, while the DS sold 52.15 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo DS sold 53.80 million units lifetime. The Nintendo Switch is currently 6.08 million units behind the lifetime sales of the DS.

That Switch vs DS is going to be close. DS sales are almost over (launch aligned). Switch still has a little gas left in the tank, but it is still slowing down. Switch is gaining on the DS, but not too quickly. If I'm not mistaken, they are fighting for top of all time in the US right?

The DS launched in November 2004 in North America, December 2004 in Japan, and March 2005 in Europe, while the Nintendo Switch launched worldwide in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the DS by 6.98 million units. The DS is ahead of the Switch by 2.03 million units.

The 96th month on sale for the Nintendo Switch is February 2025, while for the DS it is October 2012. The Switch has sold 149.70 million units, while the DS sold 151.73 million units during the same timeframe.
