Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch 2 officially announced, switch 2 direct 2nd of April

I hoped for an actual release date. Oh well...

24 player Mario Kart at 200cc is gonna be insane ^^

Is this the first numbered non-playstation console ever? I know there are numbered home computers like MSX2. Its the safest name and the Switch deserves it.

Technically, the Magnavox Odyssey 2 was first, but that was still marketed as a "computer video game system":

This. Why would you showcase your new and more powerful hardware with a Mario Kart game that looks almost identical to MK8. I thought it was MK8 until the posters in here pointed out a few differences

Games with this art style will not get major visual upgrades that are instantly noticeable without side by side comparisons.

Still though, I was expecting the first reveal of MK9 to show a bigger jump with nice lighting, lots of effects, a bunch of animation from the characters, a much improved poly count in the levels... and it may still have that, but this just wasn't the best first impression Nintendo could have made for it.  But I do like the potential for 24 racers at once.

The system looks great however.  Definitely excited to see more.

Hugh, well that was underwhelming. Lets hope nintendo can show something killa in april because atm this just seems like a switch pro

I'm sure they will. I wouldn't be surprised if Metroid Prime 4: Beyond gets a Switch 2 version. I also think there's gonna be an open world 3D Mario game announced, too! Nintendo was experimenting on that with Bowser's Fury.

The reveal trailer was for the hardware. The software was just teased - we dont even know the full name of the game.

The actual full reveal of the game will occur on April - I wonder what other games they will showcase, I'm assuming they'll do a teaser for the next 3D Mario at the Direct - with just the title and short clip.

Agreed.  Perhaps I'm just feeling like devil's advocate right now based on the few seconds we saw.

Understandable going by their history.

WiiU was not a good successor (or a good system in general) - hopefully this will not be the case with Switch 2 lol.

Yes, that does indeed appear to be the Nintendo Switch 2.

EDIT: Adding, I hope there is more than just, it's Switch but bigger and more powerful. For both Nintendo and Sony's credit, each gen they've tried to add more than just "here's more power" and yes, even Sony has before anyone says anything (game recording/streaming last gen, dualsense this gen). Nintendo has their thing which is usually innovative ways to play after all.

What game announcements are we expecting? I might buy it close to launch if Metroid Prime 4 takes advantage of the hardware.

Technically, the Xbox 360 and Xbox One are numbered, just very weirdly numbered.

Signature goes here!

So, since the direct is in April, it means that it gives time for pokemon day to occur and for pokemon legends ZA to be fully announced and detailed.
