Software data is even more closed off than before. Hardware, we do what we can with the data we are able to collect. We now post hardware estimates monthly rather than weekly as some data we collect only comes in once per month. That and I was getting burnt out updating the hardware every single week.

How are you feeling now @trunkswd ?

Firstly I missed the weekly updates, however one thing I didn't realize in the beginning - the accurate data. So with the monthly updates it is way more accurate and less adjustments needed than weekly updates where those aren't so accurate, and why post something if you need to adjust it every time later.

I'm doing well enough. Sometimes I need a bit of a break, but doing them monthly does mean some easier weeks for me.

Yes, exactly. Doing the hardware monthly means it is more accurate than before and far fewer adjustments when more data does come in like the quarterly reports from Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft.

(Haven't posted in ages so forgive me for my lack of keeping up to date but...)

Pretty crazy that all 3 consoles posted north of 1m sales/mo in Dec. Good showing for all 3. I am somewhat surprised that XSX isn't further behind than it is.

I'll have to re-acquaint myself with the charts as I haven't been looking at this data in ages, as I'm in a different industry now. Are they releasing much data on content anymore, or is that still shrouded in mystery?

Here are VGChartz estimates for 2024 (december):
(you probably looked at 2023 numbers before, in the OP, and got confused).

  • PlayStation 5 - 1,361,063
  • Switch - 822,177
  • Xbox Series X|S - 590,307

Astro Bot had a good holiday season!

Finished 8th for the best selling games of the month and 5th on PlayStation. It hasn't dropped out of the charts since it came out.

Yeah Astrobot while not setting the world on fire, sales wise, appeals to have good legs atleast.
