Forums - Gaming Discussion - The PSP could connect to a TV, does that make it a home console?

Trying to say that Nintendo fans are comparing it things they shouldn't because of it's sales?

Pretty telling that this is what you took away from it, eh?

What I am saying is that the way you are framing this is intellectually dishonest, despite you "not trying to take away from its success"

Just like you have overzealous Nintendo fans that will ignore nuance and cases such as the Switch lite when talking about it, you are doing a very bad job of masking your "PS2 sales shouldn't be compared to the Switch" discourse which is very obviously what's sparking this.

Trying to argue the Switch is a home console is intellectually dishonest. How am I being disingenuous when the later models of PSP had the exact same feature. I'm just pointing out your/others intellectual dishonesty with a fair and reasonable comparison. I don't care how much switch sells. I'll be happy for it if it becomes the greatest selling handheld of all time. I just want us to call it what it is, a handheld.

Bruh, you cant force anyone to say what you want, if you think the Switch is a "handheld" congratz, but you cant force anyone to think like you.

I just remembered that the PS2 is actually a DVD player so it's already the highest selling home video game console. Not that it matters but due to its hybrid nature it's also almost the highest selling handheld.

Is this silly question just because you’re bothered the Switch will be passing PS2 as top selling console of all time?

If it's so silly why have some people in this thread agreed with me and the point I'm trying to make? It's an excellent point that was well worth bringing up. If Switch is a home console, so is the PSP because they can both do the same thing. Output to a TV

My car can play music, that doesn't make it a music box. All that matters is what its creator calls it. What it's marketed as.

Yes, this is precisely it. The precursor to this thread was an argument in the comment section of "PS2 confirmed to hit 160mil" article.

Nah, many people (including me) are here because we're bored, right now I'm replaying Uncharted 4 on PC because I'm bored asf.

PS: Here at 1440p with Ultra settings, Uncharted 4 launched in 2016 and still looks amazing.

Maybe he thinks it's silly because it seems like you want everyone to refer to the Switch as a handheld when it was clearly designed to work as both a handheld and home console. About half of the time spent playing on the Switch is in docked mode from what I remember.

I had a PSP and loved it at the time and had no idea I could play it on my TV with some attachment until I saw your post. I looked up a video of that in action and it looks pretty useless, btw. From what I can tell you'd have to use the PSP as the controller and the cord looked so short that you'd have to sit on the floor 2 feet from the TV. So no two player games and sitting in an uncomfortable position.  The only time I think I would've used that is if I wanted to watch Spiderman from my PSP on the TV. Almost like it was an afterthought for the handheld.

Either way you're entitled to your opinion even if it seems like the only reason you feel the need to bring it up is for something as silly as keeping the PS2 in its own category in your mind so it can still be the king of home consoles if/when the Switch surpasses it. I could be wrong but that's how it's coming off.

I can connect my mobile phone to a TV, does that make it a home phone?

Switch is a hybrid console, PSP is a handheld console.
