Forums - Gaming - Humanoid Origin shutting down (Casey Hudson studio)

This one stings. Not even the creator of Mass Effect can get funding in this day in age. Operational for only 3 years and was working on a AAA character driven narrative single player sci-fi RPG.

I was really excited to see what Casey Hudson was able to do with his own creative freedom. The tagline of the studio was, "Humanoid Origin is a Canadian game development studio founded on the axiom that creative freedom & independence lead to better, more innovative games."

To never see what he had in store will be painful to see. Certainly not the sign of a healthy games industry. Maybe Casey can join his fellow former BioWare brethren working at Archetype Entertainment and assist in Exodus.

Scope too large... if you know you get funding to last maybe only 3 years.... you NEED to have something out within that time frame.
Otherwise what is the point? is it all just "on a prayer" that some magically fairy comes down a twinkles magic sparks on you, and you good to go?
(where they preying to get saved by investors or something?)

This is the problem with " studio founded on the axiom that creative freedom & independence lead to better, more innovative games."

You need the pockets to be able to even attempt it.
Otherwise you need to face reality, limit yourself, your game scope, and build your studio up, 1 small cheap game at a time.
