Forums - Nintendo - 3 key developers of retro are leaving.

I didn't really like the MP series, but this is a sad day indeed. It's a shame to see a great studio get broken up. :(

Here's to hoping they move on to bigger and better things. :)

IGN confirms that the info is True

 That article was taken down.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

Actually it has not been taken down, the link just doesn't work. It's up at IGN under news. Confirmed.

Metroid Prime Talent Moves On
Three key members of Retro Studios have left the company.
by Daemon Hatfield
April 23, 2008 - Retro Studios is beloved for producing three excellent Metroid Prime games. A rumor was sparked on the Internet earlier today that three key members of the Retro staff have left the company. IGN has confirmed this to be true: lead designer Mark Pacini, engineer Jack Mathews, and art director Todd Keller are no longer with Retro.

The reasons for their departure aren't clear, but Retro Studios will continue working on Wii software. The developer is not shutting down. It is possible Pacini, Mathews, and Keller are planning on starting a new studio, but that is pure speculation.

Retro was founded back in 1998 in Austin, TX. It is a wholly-owned, first-party developer for Nintendo.

BAM! There it is!

Wii Code 3456 7941 4060 2924
COD MW Reflex 541192229709

Damn....

Playing:

1)Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Rings of Fate (DS)

2)Neverwinter Nights: Hoards Of The Underdark

3)I don't know

No falling out just people quitting to make new studio.

People are the studio. The question is how important have these developers been and will they make games for a real console (just kidding but I would really like a Metroid Prime with PS3 graphics hmmm)

You say hmmmm as if there's more than a 0% chance of this happening.

As to the thread....damn. But I'm sure, in the long run, it won't be devastating to Retro and their level of quality.

Quickly Nintendo...sell Retro to Microsoft...3 people left therefore the studio sucks now!!!!!

 It easily could.

Sorry, but when your Lead Designer leaves, there's a big question as to whether or not you still even have a company.

Typically, the lead designer is the soul of a dev house. If he was the guy who designed for MP1-3, then his departure is indeed a grave loss.

What is Retro, a game studio or an ant colony? Seriously, it's not like every other Retro employee is some mindless drone who will just fall apart without their creative director. I'm sure they're all very intelligent, capable people; I'm equally sure that they will remain intelligent and capable.

I'm telling you, the entire heart and soul of a dev house can in fact be one person.

Would we be calling Nintendo perfectly capable if Miyamoto one day up and left for another company? Of course not. We'd be panicking because we know Miyamoto is a goddamn genius and most of the best ideas Nintendo uses in its games still come from him.

Time will tell whether or Retro can handle the loss of these guys.
