On the PS3 I only did the mandatory installs on the 360 I installed a lot of the games plus I own a ton of digital games that I got free from Games with Gold most of them I haven't even tried yet.

Xbox 360S and on-wards had fairly quiet optical disc drives.

However... I have a 4 Terabyte hard drive which is full of 200+ physical games installed and another 250~ digital games downloaded and installed with all accompanying DLC, expansions and other stuff. (Provided it was free.)
