I wonder how much software sales affected them. This last quarter was pretty weak in terms of releases. The same quarter last year GTAIV and MGS4 alone accounted for 5-6 million software sales for the ps3. No games released this past quarter that came close to those.

Please forgive me its two thirty in the morning where I live, and I am half asleep. Am I reading this correctly the division that the gaming sector is now in has managed to lose in the last quarter over four hundred million dollars. Damn if this is the case it looks like the bleeding is getting worse not better.

No deduction needed, they directly state that they made less profit year-on-year on gaming due to lower PSP sales.

Whether or not they made a loss without counting VAIO, they don't say.

Why would Sony get money for 3rd party releases? At least they had InFAMOUS and Killzone 2 this year - although the latter was mostly in last quarter.

yea the problem is we don't know how much of it is from gaming anymore. It seems vaio and gaming lost money slightly offset by walkman profits but we don't know anything other than profits are down for gaming from 56 million last year. If the numbers worked out perfectly it could be that gaming made a profit, but i doubt it.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

They charge a licensing fee for each game released on the platform.  That's kinda the point of making a console in the first place.  >_o

I didn't know those were actually significant. I guess that's where the bitching from Activision comes from.

Are you kidding? Sony gets $10 for every PS3 game sold (unless it tops certain points where the publishers get a break to encourage mega hit releases). PS2 is like $8/game - that was the foundation of their empire. PSP is more like $3, $4 or $5.

Looks like Sony Ericsson lost 212 Euros (~$298 million) and the Consumer Electronics & Devices Division lost $20 million.
