Found more evidence that the PS2 - "140m" in August claim is bogus:

http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/financial/ar/2008/qfhh7c00000htn6x-att/SonyAR08-E.pdf

Its on page 33 (the report deals with FY 2007 which ended March 2008, even though it is called 'Annual Report 2008' on page 1)

"PS2 cumulative sales (sales to stores) reached approximately 130 million units" in March 2008 (page six confirms the date)

"PSP cumulative sales (sales to stores) surpassed 37 million units" in March 2008

Sony then lists cumulative sales (sales to stores) for Q1 and Q2 FY 2008 here (which is through Sept 2008):

PS2 - 1.51 + 2.50

PSP - 3.72 + 3.18

That means that as of September 2008 Sony has shipped:

"Approximately" 134 million PS2s

At least 43.9m PSPs.

Those figures tie in well with BKK2's figures - 133.8m PS2s as of September 2008, and 44.5m PSPs

It might not be at 140, but my god, the ps2 is still a monster

Microsoft has claimed that Christmas 2008 was the biggest sales period in the Xbox brand’s six-year European history – with sales of Xbox 360 almost doubling those during Christmas 2007.

The company also announced that over eight million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold in Europe, the Middle East and Africa up to the end of 2008.

360 shipped 5.5m in CYQ4:

Microsoft said today that it had sold more than 28 million Xbox 360s since introducing the game console in November 2005. That compares with more than 20 million PlayStation 3 consoles sold by Sony since it debuted the device in November 2006, according to Microsoft executives.

"We're widening our lead against PlayStation 3," said Aaron Greenberg, director of product management for the Xbox, who noted that going into the fourth quarter, Microsoft's lead had been 5 million consoles. "This was the best year in the history of the Xbox, despite the tough economy."

Nintendo's data is coming January 29th apparently.

Anyone know when the full data for Microsoft (we have 28m Xbox 360s shipped) and Sony will be arriving? Sony's tends to arrive within a day of Nintendo's information.

Looking forward to seeing if the projections change. My suspicion is Sony may lower PS3 shipment projections by a smidge - 500k to 1m, along with more sharply negative PSP projections (14m instead of 16m shipped in the FY?).

360 was at 17.7m through 2007, so 360 is exactly 28m through 2008, which means the 5.5m CYQ4 figure is exact too.

if they are at 22.2+5.5=27.7 shipped ,, shouldn't it be around 26.5 sold instead of 27.3 ?(around a million on the shelves)

360 shipments are 28m, not 27.7m. Previous quarter 360 was at 22.5m, not 22.2m. Regardless, assuming a million on the shelves is pretty pointless at this time of year, after 2007 360 was in very short supply, but after 2006 360 was extremely overstocked.

oh so 27.2 is close to 1 mil on the shelves enough.

PS3 was at 16.85,,,so what do you think it will be after shipment figures are in?

I'd guess somewhere around 21m.
