Forums - Gaming - Ninja Theory going multiplatform

According to this: http://www.dbtechno.com/gaming/2008/04/23/heavenly-sword-dev-not-ps3-exclusive-going-xbox-360/

Heavenly Sword developer, Ninja Theory, will no longer make games exclusive to the PS3, and will be releasing their next game on the xbox 360 as well.  No word yet on what that game is, but this is a clear continuation of the trend toward all games being multiplatform.

They made Kung Fu Chaos for the original Xbox, so it's no surprise. Also didn't MS turn down Heavenly Sword before Sony got it?

I wonder why?

Heavenly Sword is a million seller.

That's weird.

Not really a trend as Ninja Theory was just contracted to do Heavenly Sword for the PS3 but Sony still owns the rights to Heavenly Sword.

Maybe Heavenly Sword was so successful that they thought they should spread their design talents to other platforms as well.

They probably didn't recoup enough money from those sales to justify staying exclusive.

Well, at least Heavenly Sword is still Sony's game.

It's not like Ninja Theory funded the project, they are a studio not a publisher. They get money either way b/c someone else paid for the developement and marketing. It was probably Sony the ones the didn't recoup enough money from sales to justify funding Heavenly Sword.

OT: Being that Ninja Theory was never a 2nd party studio and was independent all along, it's not a surpirse that their next game is multi platform. The process probably went like this.

Ninja Theory thought of an idea and created the IP known as "Heavenly Sword", they pitched the idea to many companies capable of publishing the game. Sony was sold on the sales pitch, liked the idea of "Heavenly Sword" and published the game. Since Sony happens to be a 1st party publisher, Heavenly Sword became exclusive to Sony's console.

This time, Ninja Theory created a new I.P and pitched it to multiple companies. The company that accepted to fund and publish this new I.P happens to be a 3rd party publisher, therefore they decide to release the game on as many as consoles as possible to make the most money out of the deal.

Despite the current trend on the net of proclaiming the xbox's death, It really does make sense for most dev's to make their high def games multiplat. I have a feeling this trend will continue for quite some time, with it being another year or two before we see certain dev's moving to a more specific console centric strategy.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Who knows, I thought developers liked being second party. I heard it was much safer for them.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S.
