PS5 Tops 60M LT, XS Sales Up YoY - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for July 2024

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console worldwide with 963,256 units sold for July 2024, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 60.16 million units lifetime worldwide.

The Nintendo Switch sold an estimated 652,682 units to bring its lifetime sales to 142.06 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 435,170 units to bring their lifetime sales to 29.64 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 3,418 units to bring its lifetime sales to 117.18 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2017 are down by nearly 176,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are up by over 124,000 units. PS4 sold 1,139,006 units for the month of July 2017 and Xbox One sales were at 311,005 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 285,626 (-22.9%). Xbox Series X|S sales are up by 64,206 units (17.3%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 314,039 units (-32.5%). The PlayStation 4 is down by -3,158 units (-87.1%) year-over-year.

Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are down by nearly 29,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are up by over 97,000 units, and Nintendo Switch sales are down by over 102,000 units.

2024 year-to-date, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 7.45 million units, the Nintendo Switch has sold 5.32 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 2.42 million units.

PS5 and XS See Massive Boost YoY - Americas Hardware Estimates for July 2024

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in the Americas (USA, Canada, & Latin America) with 427,990 units sold for July 2024, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 24.96 million units lifetime in the Americas.

The Xbox Series X|S was the second best-selling console with an estimated 300,634 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 17.92 million units. The Nintendo Switch came in third place with 176,263 units sold to bring its lifetime sales to 52.89 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 987 units to bring its lifetime sales to 41.54 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2017 are up by nearly 148,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are up by over 148,000 units. PS4 sold 279,402 units for the month of July 2017 and Xbox One sales were at 152,341 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are up by 104,956 (32.5%). Xbox Series X|S sales are up by 102,175 units (51.5%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 126,028 units (-41.7%). The PlayStation 4 is down by 5,875 units (-85.6%) year-over-year.

Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are up by nearly 63,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are up by nearly 92,000 units, and Nintendo Switch sales are down by over 53,000 units.

2024 year-to-date, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 2.91 million units, the Xbox Series X|S has sold 1.59 million units, and the Nintendo Switch has sold 1.55 million units.

PS5 Best-Seller as Sales Fall Over 50% YoY - Europe Hardware Estimates for July 2024

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in Europe with 250,139 units sold for July 2024, according to VGChartz estimates. The PlayStation 5 has now sold an estimated 19.95 million units lifetime in Europe.

The Nintendo Switch sold an estimated 144,855 units to bring its lifetime sales to 36.41 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 83,963 units to bring their lifetime sales to 7.86 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 1,388 units to bring its lifetime sales to 45.86 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2017 are down by over 110,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by over 15,000 units. PS4 sold 360,352 units for the month of July 2017 and Xbox One sales were at 99,125 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 264,593 (-51.4%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 52,371 units (-38.4%) and Nintendo Switch sales are down by 73,791 units (-33.8%). The PlayStation 4 is down by 5,012 units (-78.3%) year-over-year.

Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are down by over 105,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by nearly 2,000 units, and Nintendo Switch sales are down by over 4,000 units.

2024 year-to-date, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 2.49 million units, the Nintendo Switch has sold 1.21 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.51 million units.

Switch Best-Seller, XS Sales Up YoY - Japan Hardware Estimates for July 2024

The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console in Japan with 237,405 units sold for July 2024, according to VGChartz estimates. The Nintendo Switch has now sold an estimated 33.52 million units lifetime in Japan.

The PlayStation 5 sold an estimated 119,198 units to bring its lifetime sales to 5.91 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 15,548 units to bring their lifetime sales to 0.62 million units. The PlayStation 4 sold an estimated 814 units to bring its lifetime sales to 9.68 million units.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2017 are down by nearly 67,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are up by over 15,000 units. PS4 sold 185,752 units for the month of July 2017 and Xbox One sales were at 435 units.

Nintendo Switch sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 63,513 units (-21.1%). PlayStation 5 sales are down by 74,921 (-38.6%) and Xbox Series X|S sales are up by 10,817 units (228.6%). The PlayStation 4 is down by 8,661 units (-91.4%) year-over-year.

Looking at sales month-on-month, Nintendo Switch sales are up by over 8,000 units, the PlayStation 5 sales are down by nearly 6,000 units, and Xbox Series X|S sales are up by over 7,000 units.

2024 year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch has sold an estimated 1.68 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold 0.94 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.08 million units.

I don't remember a platform being held aloft by Japan like the Switch except for the Vita, though Asia exports might be playing a role here.

Worldwide estimates and report will be out tomorrow. But as a preview we have the PS5 topping 60 million lifetime and the Switch topping 142 million lifetime. The Xbox Series X|S is also up year-on-year thanks to the huge boost in the US.
