PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in Japan - June 2024

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020 in Japan, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 Japan:

June 2024 is the 44th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 3,453 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 267,759 units. The PS5 is currently ahead by 267,360 units.

The 44th month for the PS5 in Japan is June 2024, while for the PS4 it is September 2017. The PS5 has sold 5.79 million units, while the PS4 sold 5.52 million units during the same timeframe. The PS4 sold current PS5 sales in month 47.

The PS4 crossed 6 million in month 47, 7 million in month 53, and 8 million in month 61. The PS4 has sold 9.68 million units to date. The PS5 is currently 3.89 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PS4 in Japan.

Xbox Series X|S vs Xbox 360 Sales Comparison in Japan - June 2024

This monthly series compares the aligned sales of the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox 360 in Japan, as well as looking at lifetime original Xbox sales and Xbox One sales.

The Xbox Series X|S launched in Japan in November 2020, while the Xbox 360 launched in Japan in December 2005. The original Xbox launched in Japan in February 2002 and the Xbox One in September 2014.

In the last 12 months, the Xbox 360 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 333,724 units. The Xbox 360 is currently ahead by 504,762 units.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.61 million units in 44 months, while the Xbox 360 sold 1.11 million units. Month 44 for the Xbox Series X|S is June 2024 and for the Xbox 360 is July 2009.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 273,225 units. The PS5 is currently behind the PS4 by 5.34 million units.

The PS5 has sold 19.74 million units in 43 months, while the PS4 sold 25.07 million units. Month 44 for the PS5 is June 2024 and for the PS4 is June 2017.

Switch vs DS Sales Comparison - June 2024

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo DS.

The DS launched in November 2004 in North America, December 2004 in Japan, and March 2005 in Europe, while the Nintendo Switch launched worldwide in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

Switch Vs. DS Global:

June 2024 is the 88th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for. During the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Switch by 539,828 units when compared to the Switch during the same timeframe.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the DS by 5.92 million units. The DS is ahead of the Switch by 8.88 million units.

The 88th month on sale for the Nintendo Switch is June 2024, while for the DS it is February 2012. The Switch has sold 141.41 million units, while the DS sold 150.29 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo DS sold 154.02 million units lifetime. The Nintendo Switch is currently 12.61 million units behind the lifetime sales of the DS.
