Forums - Nintendo - BioWare: Is the Wii Actually Gaming?

So what? Not every developer wants to make games for the Wii. It doesn't surprise me one bit that BioWare feels that way. Given the nature of BioWare games, I don't think the Wii is the best console for them.

The system works for some developers but may not work as well for others. There's nothing wrong with that.

It's likely more of a perceived demographic thing.  Companies don't seem to realize that there are a lot of gamers in the Wii's userbase that do buy lots of games.  I still don't understand why they bothered moving to the 360 from the PC as their main platform...

Nobody has anything against Bioware not wanting to develop for Wii rocketpig or at least I don't.

The thing about this article is that they stoop to such ridiculous BS like "Is the Wii actually gaming?" That's the kind of thing you hear out of idiotic fanboys not industry professionals or so you would hope.

It sounds a lot like all the whining against Windows from Linux developers.

Guess we should discount 99% of all video games prior to the 5th gen if narration is the key factor in qualifying the experience as a video game.

Exactly! So gaming never existed until this generation apparently. PS2 was not gaming, Xbox was not gaming, GC was not gaming.......

That is true Rocket but at the same time you could say, for the type of games we want to make the wiis hardware just wont work. We really want to push the graphics envelope and since the wii is limited to 480 p we cant justify using it when an alternative offers more.

that is not flame that is just fact

insted we tend to get this, the wii hardware sucks for making games and should just be left for crappy casual markets and non gamers

or....

with the type of game we want to make with drop in an out network games Nintendo right now is not our best bet for gamers due to friend codes and lack of voice communication

what we get......

the wiis network is just horrible and will never let any major studio push a good game onto the system, they need to be just left for casual and non gamers

or.....

with constant downloads a big part of the game we really needed to go to a system that has a standard hard drive system in place

what we get....

man the lack of a hard drive mean every game that would have to be made for the wii is going to suck b/c you cant download anything with out our company investing tons to get it to work, the wii needs to just stick to casual games and non gamers

or....

the wiis motion controls are still a little young to handle the complexity of this major technical fighting game

what we get...

the wii mote is nothing more then a gimick and will never have a place with real gamers for any type of game other then casual and non gamer games

"...those kinds of experiences are much more like a toy experience. They're playing, together or not, but you're not 'gaming' anymore," argued Zeschuk. "If gaming is defined by story, then generally Wii may not be."

Hah. Fail.

I played a good game the other day called I Am Legend.  I played it on the futuristic DVD player console.  The menu's for the game were great and easy to navigate.  Not much in the way of interaction but it did have a heck of a story.

I think the problem is that game developers ever since the NES have given us the same game controls and built up graphics and story for immersion.  Really no reason why you can't have a good story with the Wii but the graphics will pale compared to most projects that have been made the last few years.  Blizzard is a good developer and I hope they jump on the Wii.  But if they don't, someone else will make a game that will take their spot.  Maybe it won't be as good, but the Wii won't stop selling.  The first year there was like 3 good Wii games and it remained sold out.  There are more good games now.

Never really saw BioWare working with a Nintendo system. I was blown away when I saw them making the sonic Rpg for the DS. But still not a big lost.

Former something....

I have no problem with them not developing for the Wii (I do think it seems a tad odd since they're willing to make DS games)

But saying silly things like "The Wii isn't gaming" has nothing to do with the platform they develop for. It's just silly.
