Switch vs DS Sales Comparison in Japan - February 2024

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo DS.

The DS launched in December 2004 in Japan and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the normal holiday periods and the Japanese Golden Week holiday for the two consoles do not lineup.

February 2024 is the 84th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for in Japan. During the latest month, the Switch has outsold the DS by 200,502 units when you align the launches.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the DS by 2.65 million units. The DS is currently ahead of the Switch by 0.54 million units.

The 84th month for the Switch is February 2024, while for the DS it is November 2011. The Switch has sold 32.33 million units, while the DS sold 32.87 million units during the same timeframe. The DS sold current Switch sales in month 74.

The DS has sold 32.99 million units lifetime in Japan. The Switch is currently 0.66 million units behind the lifetime sales of the DS.

PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in Japan - February 2024

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020 in Japan, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

February 2024 is the 40th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 4 by 78,798 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS5 has outsold the PS4 by 263,825 units. The PS5 is currently ahead by 414,381 units.

The 40th month for the PS5 in Japan is February 2024, while for the PS4 it is May 2017. The PS5 has sold 5.35 million units, while the PS4 sold 4.93 million units during the same timeframe. The PS4 sold current PS5 sales in month 43.

The PS4 crossed 5 million in month 41, 6 million in month 47, and 7 million in month 53. The PS4 has sold 9.67 million units to date. The PS5 is currently 4.32 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PS4 in Japan.

Xbox Series X|S vs Xbox 360 Sales Comparison in Japan - February 2024

This monthly series compares the aligned sales of the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox 360 in Japan, as well as looking at lifetime original Xbox sales and Xbox One sales.

The Xbox Series X|S launched in Japan in November 2020, while the Xbox 360 launched in Japan in December 2005. The original Xbox launched in Japan in February 2002 and the Xbox One in September 2014.

In the last 12 months, the Xbox 360 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 286,836 units. The Xbox 360 is currently ahead by 452,214 units.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.56 million units in 40 months, while the Xbox 360 sold 1.02 million units. Month 40 for the Xbox Series X|S is February 2024 and for the Xbox 360 is March 2009.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

In the last 12 months, the PS5 has outsold the PS4 by 0.58 million units. The PS5 is currently behind the PS4 by 4.71 million units.

The PS5 has sold 18.34 million units in 40 months, while the PS4 sold 23.04 million units. Month 40 for the PS5 is February 2024 and for the PS4 is February 2017.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S both launched in November 2020. The Xbox Series X|S launched in the US on November 10, 2020, and the PlayStation 5 on November 12, 2020.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the PS5 by 3.14 million units. The PS5 is behind the Switch by 4.41 million units.

The PlayStation 5 has sold 55.47 million units in 40 months, while the Nintendo Switch sold 59.88 million units. Month 40 for the PlayStation 5 is February 2024 and for the Nintendo Switch it is June 2020.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the DS by 1.23 million units. The DS is ahead of the Switch by 8.82 million units.

The 84th month on sale for the Nintendo Switch is February 2024, while for the DS it is October 2011. The Switch has sold 138.63 million units, while the DS sold 147.45 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo DS sold 154.02 million units lifetime. The Nintendo Switch is currently 15.39 million units behind the lifetime sales of the DS.
