Only way to reverse hunger ‘catastrophe’ is to flood Gaza with aid: UNRWA

The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has commented on the latest IPC assessment that found that the worst-case scenario of famine is currently under way in Gaza.

“An entirely man-made famine,” Philippe Lazzarini wrote on social media.

“More than 100+ people have died due to hunger in the past few weeks alone. The only way to reverse this catastrophe is to flood Gaza with a massive scale up of aid,” he said.

“The United Nations, including UNRWA, have the expertise and resources available. UNRWA alone has the equivalent of 6,000 trucks of food and medicine ready to cross into Gaza. Let us do our work without restrictions, in safety and dignity,” the head of UNRWA urged.

IPC report confirms ‘what we have feared – Gaza is on the brink of famine’: Guterres

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has issued a statement on the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) alert, saying it confirms that Gaza is on the “brink of famine”.

“The facts are in – and they are undeniable. Palestinians in Gaza are enduring a humanitarian catastrophe of epic proportions. This is not a warning. It is a reality unfolding before our eyes,” he said.

“The trickle of aid must become an ocean. Food, water, medicine, and fuel must flow in waves and without obstruction. This nightmare must end. Ending this worst-case scenario will take the best efforts of all parties now,” he said.

Guterres also reiterated his call for an “immediate and permanent humanitarian ceasefire”, the immediate and unconditional release of all captives, and full humanitarian access across Gaza.

Israel laments ‘distorted campaign’ on starvation in Gaza

Under mounting international pressure, Israel announced a series of measures over the weekend to increase the flow of aid, including expanded humanitarian corridors and international aid drops.

UN officials say there has so far been little change on the ground and far more is needed.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar denied that Israel is deliberately starving Gaza and said the focus on hunger is part of a “distorted campaign of international pressure”.

“This pressure is directly sabotaging the chances for a ceasefire and hostage deal. It is only pushing towards military escalation by hardening Hamas’s stance,” he said. “No external force will cause Israel to sacrifice its security, but it is always open to constructive dialogue.”

Saar added, “Hamas staying in power would be a tragedy for Israelis and Palestinians. We will not allow a jihadist terror state in heart of our ancient homeland.”

Gidean Saar needs to be arrested as well.

Hamas has already been willing to cede power, but first the genocide must end. Palestinians favor Barghouti to lead them instead of Hamas or the PA. Release him and let him set up a technocrat interim government as proposed half a year ago.

Israel says army to remain in Gaza, same as occupied West Bank

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz told new army recruits he’s “confident” they will complete their goal of returning the captives and defeating Hamas.

In a statement on Telegram, Katz said the military will continue to be “around and inside” Gaza, just as it does in the occupied West Bank. In comments reported by the Israeli news outlet Walla, Katz also told the recruits they are the ones “who must bear the security responsibility” in the enclave.

On the captives held in Gaza, Katz said they were at the “heart of considerations”. “Any manoeuvre required, or even a deal with the enemy, to rescue 10 live abductees or even recover those who were killed, we will carry out while maintaining security. The central goal after the war is to prevent arms smuggling and prevent Hamas from rearming.”

As long as you keep dropping bombs Hamas has all the materials they need for IEDs, 10% or more of ordnance doesn't explode.

Katz just like Netanyahu need forever war to stay in power. You are indirectly arming Hamas while directly arming other militant groups in Gaza.

Occupation has never made the West Bank more secure either.

‘Explicit threat’: Hamas slams Smotrich’s comments on Gaza

The Palestinian group has condemned far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s recent comments on Gaza as an “explicit threat to continue the crimes of genocide and forced displacement”.

“This statement coincides with parallel moves aimed at imposing the occupation’s ‘sovereignty’ over the West Bank. We affirm that this dangerous occupation escalation will be met with all forms of legitimate resistance in defence of our land and national rights,” Hamas said.

As we reported earlier, Smotrich told a conference that Israel is “closer than ever” to rebuilding the illegal settlement of Gush Katif in Gaza, which he called “an integral part of the land of Israel”.

Hamas’s statement also comes after Israeli publication Haaretz reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had presented a proposal to Israel’s security cabinet to annex parts of the Gaza Strip in an effort to prevent Smotrich’s resignation.

Satellite photos show thousands scrambling after food trucks in Gaza

Satellite images verified by the Sanad agency show thousands of displaced Palestinians surrounding about 15 aid trucks that managed to enter southern Gaza.

Large numbers of desperate people extended for more than 2km (1.2 miles) along the same street.

The satellite imagery taken on July 26 shows the Israeli army established a military post along the Morag Corridor road, less than 300 metres (980 feet) from the massive crowd, with Israeli military vehicles stationed between buildings used as cover by soldiers.

Medical sources and journalists later confirmed nine civilians were killed near an aid distribution point in the Qizan al-Najjar area, south of Khan Younis, as a result of Israeli army gunfire.

‘Unconscionable’: Gaza children collapse from hunger as malnutrition surges

Save the Children says the number of children aged under five with acute malnutrition in its Gaza clinics has surged over the past four months.

In a statement, the charity said that of the 3,533 children screened for malnutrition during the first half of July, “259 were admitted for treatment (seven percent) compared to 28 (one percent) in March”.

“The number of children admitted for treatment of malnutrition in the first two weeks of July is close to the total for the whole of June,” it added.

“More than four in 10 pregnant and breastfeeding women – 43 percent – screened at Save the Children’s clinics so far in July were found to be malnourished, almost three times as many as in March when the government of Israel imposed a total siege on Gaza,” it added.

Ahmad Alhendawi, Save the Children’s regional director for the Middle East, Eastern Europe and North Africa, said it was “unconscionable” that children were collapsing from hunger and “wishing to die” at a time when “tonnes of lifesaving food and nutritional supplies that could reverse an entirely manmade crisis wait just across the border or even within Gaza”.

Rising hunger deaths proof Gaza situation crossed ‘from warning into tragedy’

The CEO of the international aid agency Mercy Corps says the latest IPC assessment of the situation in Gaza “confirms” urgent warnings of an unfolding famine in the territory.

Tjada D’Oyen McKenna said the increasing deaths from hunger, malnutrition and disease have proven that “we’ve already crossed from warning into tragedy”.

“Children are dying of hunger, malnutrition is skyrocketing, and families have exhausted every possible means to survive,” McKenna said, adding that one of the organisation’s team members in Gaza said the suffering there was “deeper than anything” they could express.

“Airdrops and humanitarian pauses are insufficient, and they won’t prevent mass starvation or help bring malnourished children back from the brink of death. None of these are adequate substitutes for a functioning humanitarian system,” McKenna said, stressing the most effective way to save lives in Gaza was to reopen all border crossings and deliver aid “at the scale that’s needed”.

UK to recognise Palestinian state in September unless Gaza situation changes

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has told the cabinet the country will recognise a Palestinian state in September unless Israel takes more steps to end the “appalling situation” in Gaza.

“He said that the UK will recognise the state of Palestine in September, before UNGA [United Nations General Assembly], unless the Israeli government takes substantive steps to end the appalling situation in Gaza, reaches a ceasefire, makes clear there will be no annexation in the West Bank, and commits to a long-term peace process that delivers a Two State Solution,” a statement said.

“He reiterated that there is no equivalence between Israel and Hamas and that our demands on Hamas remain, that they must release all the hostages, sign up to a ceasefire, accept that they will play no role in the government of Gaza, and disarm.”

Starmer took the decision after recalling his cabinet during the summer holidays on Tuesday to discuss a new proposed peace plan being worked on with other European leaders and how to deliver more humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The decision comes amid growing pressure on Starmer by his Labour party to recognise a Palestinian state during the ongoing starvation crisis in Gaza. France also announced it would recognise the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September.

How is that any action to stop the genocide. "If you don't stop we're going to say some words in September" Any resolutions in UNGA are non binding.

It's just another deflection tactic. Arms embargo and sanctions are needed yesterday, as well as a fleet of humanitarian ships to break the blockade. Storm the beaches with aid, Normandy style.

Starmer and Macron are just playing games trying to fend off criticism while making demands on Hamas for Israel in trade of a rather meaningless UNGA statement.

More from Keir Starmer

The British prime minister has reiterated a demand for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and for the UN to be allowed to send humanitarian assistance into the enclave to prevent starvation.

“We are committed to working together with our international partners to develop a credible peace plan for the next phase in Gaza that establishes transitional governance and security arrangements, and ensures the delivery of humanitarian aid at the necessary scale,” Keir Starmer said, according to a government statement.

He added: “We have long been committed to recognising a state of Palestine … Palestinian statehood is the inalienable right of the Palestinian people. It is not in the gift of any neighbour and is also essential to the long-term security of Israel.”

Then recognize it now today and put it in front of the UNSC. You just framed it as a threat... implying you won't recognize Palestinian statehood to 'reward' Israel for slowing down its genocide and makes some promises they will never keep.

"unless the Israeli government takes substantive steps to end the appalling situation in Gaza, reaches a ceasefire, makes clear there will be no annexation in the West Bank, and commits to a long-term peace process that delivers a Two State Solution"

Fuck Starmer, just more stalling.

Lammy joins into the complicity

UK: ‘Hand of history on our shoulders’ over viable two-state solution

Foreign Secretary David Lammy says Britain bears a “special burden of responsibility” to support the two-state solution as he announced the UK’s plan to recognise Palestinian statehood at the United Nations in New York.

“The situation on the ground continues to worsen and the two-state solution is in peril,” he told a United Nations conference on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Lammy called Israel’s rejection of a two-state solution “morally and strategically wrong”.

“The Netanyahu government’s rejection of a two-state solution is wrong; it’s wrong morally; and it’s wrong strategically. It harms the interests of the Israeli people, closing off the only path to a just and lasting peace, and that is why we are determined to protect the viability of a two-state solution.

“And so it is with the hand of history on our shoulders that His Majesty’s government, therefore, intends to recognise the state of Palestine when the UN General Assembly gathers in September here in New York.”

You have been dodging that “special burden of responsibility” for 76 years. Let's wait another month+ to see how many more kids can starve to death before you utter some words you should have recognized the state of Palestine in 1948 right next to the recognition of Israel as per the UN partition plan.

And Canada is just UK and US lapdog.

New report contradicts Canadian government claims it stopped arming Israel

A group of Canadian NGOs, operating under the banner Arms Embargo Now, have released a report with findings based on shipping records and government data they say contradict Canada’s claim that it stopped sending weapons to Israel.

The report reveals:

  • There were 47 shipments with detailed commercial shipping records from manufacturers in Canada, selling military-related components to Israeli weapons companies between October 2023 and July 2025.
  • 421,070 rounds of ammunition were exported to Israel since the Gaza assault began, including one shipment in April alone containing 175,000 bullets.
  • There were 391 shipments, including bullets, military equipment, weapon parts, aircraft components, and communication devices, exported from Canada to Israel between October 2023 and June 2025.
  • Shipments were sent from seven Canadian cities, destined primarily for Israel’s largest weapons company, Elbit Systems, its subsidiaries and other Israeli defence firms.
  • About 100 international flights transported Canadian components to Israel – 64
of them were commercial passenger planes where military cargo was loaded beneath civilian travellers on routes through Frankfurt, Paris, New York, Abu Dhabi, and New Delhi.

Israel ‘committed’ to returning captives, says PM Netanyahu

The Israeli prime minister says he hasn’t stopped meetings on securing a deal to return the captives from Gaza, but claimed Hamas remains a “big obstacle”.

“It remains steadfast in its refusal. President Trump said it, [special envoy Steve] Witkoff said it, we say it, everyone who knows the facts, including the mediators, everyone knows it,” Netanyahu said in a post on X.

“We are not giving up. We will continue to do everything we can, one way or another. We are committed to their return.”

Last week, Netanyahu withdrew his negotiating team from Qatar, where ceasefire talks have taken place, after Hamas’s response to a Witkoff ceasefire proposal.

Earlier this month, the spokesperson of Hamas’s military wing said Israel rejected a truce agreement that would release all captives held in Gaza, and pledged the group is prepared for a lengthy war if there is no deal.

“It has become clear to us that the government of the criminal Netanyahu has no real interest in the captives because they are soldiers,” said Qassam Brigades spokesperson Abu Obeida.

‘Acts of terrorism’: France condemns ‘murder’ of West Bank activist, other settler attacks

The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the killing of Awdah Hathaleen, a well-known Palestinian teacher, activist and contributor to the Oscar-winning film No Other Land.

In a statement, the ministry described his killing by a settler as “murder,” while reaffirming its opposition to ongoing Israeli settler violence in the occupied West Bank. It also pointed to recent incidents in Kafr Malek and the Christian village of Taybeh. “These violent actions are acts of terrorism,” it said.

Since the beginning of 2022, settlers have killed more than 30 people in the West Bank, the statement noted, calling on Israeli authorities to hold perpetrators accountable and protect Palestinian civilians.

France reiterated its total condemnation of settlement activity, which, it said, is contrary to international law, referencing an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice last year.

“We will continue to support the adoption of further measures by the EU, and if the violence continues, we stand ready to take additional measures at the national level, including sanctions against members of the government who support such violence,” the statement added.

Israeli soldiers disrupt funeral of Palestinian activist in Hebron

Israeli troops have stormed the funeral procession of Palestinian activist Awdah Hathaleen, Wafa news agency reports.

Hathaleen, a human rights activist and teacher known for his role in the Oscar-winning film No Other Land, was fatally shot by an Israeli settler on Monday.

He was reportedly attempting to prevent the destruction of Palestinian land in Umm al-Kheir, a village southeast of Yatta, in the Hebron governorate.

Osama Makhamreh, an activist cited by Wafa, witnessed Israeli soldiers assaulting mourners, forcibly removing them from the procession, and declaring the area a closed military zone.

During the incident, two foreign activists were detained by Israeli soldiers for showing solidarity with Hathaleen’s family. The military also sealed off Khirbet Umm al-Kheir, blocking residents, activists, and human rights groups from attending the funeral.

Later, Israeli troops provided protection to settlers as they continued to expand the Carmel settlement in the Palestinian village.

Trump administration pressed to address starvation in Gaza

Senate Democrats are imploring President Donald Trump’s administration to intervene as Palestinians starve in Israeli-controlled Gaza.

More than 40 senators signed a letter on Tuesday urging the resumption of ceasefire talks while sharply criticising an Israeli-backed American organisation created to distribute food aid in the war-battered territory.

Their letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff said the GHF – created with backing from the Trump administration – has “failed to address the deepening humanitarian crisis and contributed to an unacceptable and mounting civilian death toll around the organisation’s sites”.

Trump on Monday expressed concern about the worsening humanitarian situation and broke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that people are not starving in the Gaza Strip. But it is unclear how Trump will proceed.

Trump says Palestinian recognition plans not discussed with UK’s Starmer

US President Donald Trump says he did not discuss Britain’s plan to recognise a Palestinian state during his meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Trump told reporters on board Air Force One while travelling back to the United States from Scotland, recognising a Palestinian state would be “rewarding Hamas” – in a similar response to the decision from Israel.

“I don’t think they should be rewarded,” Trump said.

The US sent $60m for food aid for Palestinians in Gaza and Trump said he wants to make sure it’s “spent wisely and is spent judiciously, and that food is distributed in a proper manner”.

NGO calls for arrest of Israeli soldier in Hungary for Gaza ‘war crimes’

The International Coalition for Justice and Peace (ICJP) has formally notified police of an Israeli soldier suspected of war crimes now believed to be within Hungary’s jurisdiction.

The coalition has submitted a detailed dossier including photographic and written evidence to support the claim. The unnamed individual is thought to have served in the 932 Battalion, also known as the “Granite Battalion” of the Nahal Brigade, from October to December 2023.

During this time, the brigade operated in Gaza’s Zeitoun neighbourhood and Beit Hanoon and was involved in the Rafah incursion in late 2024, ICJP said.

The group said evidence indicates the soldier made statements advocating for the destruction of Palestinian villages, and it has footage from April 2024 showing the 932 Battalion commander discussing methods used to attack Palestinians in Gaza.

ICJP called for the individual’s arrest and detention under Hungarian law.

Orban will have none of that :/

‘Failure follows failure’: Israeli opposition ramps up pressure on Netanyahu

Yair Lapid, leader of the opposition and former prime minister, has criticised the government’s handling of the Gaza conflict saying it led Israel from a “just war” to a “political disaster”.

In a post on X, Lapid called out Israel’s leadership saying “failure follows failure”. “A prime minister who has disappeared from the political scene, a useless foreign minister, and ministers who endanger soldiers every time they open their mouths.”

Lapid’s comments come as pressure continues to mount on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with growing frustration over his leadership during the ongoing war on Gaza.

Israel’s Lapid: Government pushing idea of annexation over ending Gaza war

Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid has criticised what he says is the “extremist” government’s attempt to annex northern Gaza instead of ending the war.

“What does this mean? It means that our money will be used to educate the children in Gaza, to build hospitals in Gaza, our money will fix the roads in Gaza, our money will provide water and electricity to Gaza,” Lapid wrote on X in Hebrew.

There’s an alternative to the plan that includes “ending the war, returning the hostages, withdrawing from Gaza, transferring it to Egyptian management, and achieving a real victory over Hamas”.

Lapid’s comments come after the Israeli news outlet Haaretz reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is planning to propose annexing parts of Gaza in an attempt to convince far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich not to quit his coalition government.

Err, you destroyed it all, the bill belongs to Israel... But not through annexation, genocide reparations. It might take a long time, but eventually Israel will pay. Reparations for the Armenian genocide of 1915 are still in progress... (Even though the Ottoman Empire no longer exists)

Germany is still paying for the Holocaust as well:

In 2024, Holocaust survivors worldwide will continue to receive financial compensation from Germany through the Claims Conference, totaling over $1.4 billion. This includes direct payments and funding for social services like home care. The payments are part of a long-standing agreement between Germany and the Claims Conference, which has been distributing compensation to survivors since the 1950s

And what about the West bank...

Israeli settlers set fire to farmland northwest of Nablus

Israeli settlers have set fire to agricultural land in the village of Burqa, northwest of Nablus, in the occupied West Bank.

Citing local sources, the Wafa news agency reported that settlers from the illegal Homesh colony, with the backing of Israeli troops, set fire to land near Palestinian homes. So far, no injuries have been reported.
