At least 12 Palestinians killed in Israeli attack near aid site

At least 12 people have been killed after Israeli forces fired shots near a food distribution centre in Rafah, southern Gaza. Dozens of people were also wounded in the incident.

An estimated 900 people have been reported killed while waiting for food distribution in Gaza since the end of May. Most of those were killed in the vicinity of the GHF sites.

Number of aid seekers killed in Israeli fire in Rafah rises to 29

The number of Palestinians killed by Israeli attacks while waiting to receive food aid in Rafah has risen to 29.

Palestinians desperate for food as more killed while seeking aid

At least 29 people were shot while seeking aid from GHF centres, and more than 80 were wounded. Doctors at Nasser Hospital are struggling to treat the wounded, many of whom are in critical condition. The hospital is also running out of medical supplies and fuel.

People keep going to GHF centres because these are the only distribution centres that have food. There’s no flour or rice, and all that is left is very expensive, and no one can afford it. Palestinians walk long distances in the sun to reach those centres. They say they have nothing to lose – that they’re either going to die by starvation or by Israeli fire.

Gaza Health Ministry says 32 killed at aid distribution site

Gaza’s Health Ministry said Nasser Hospital has received 32 bodies since dawn, after the latest shooting at a GHF food aid site in Rafah.

It added that while “massacres” continue to take place at food distribution centres, medical teams observed a significant increase in death rates resulting from starvation and malnutrition.

The ministry warned of an “unprecedented health and humanitarian disaster if this international silence continues” and called on the international community to “take urgent and effective action”.

Witness says shooting at GFH distribution site ‘meant to kill’

Mohammed al-Khalidi was at a GHF aid distribution site in Rafah today when live bullets were fired, killing at least 36 people.

“We reached the area where there are cement blocks at the first entrance, the tanks started moving towards us, we thought they came out to organise us so we can get aid,” he told Al Jazeera.

“Suddenly, we saw the jeeps coming from one side and the tanks from the other, and they started shooting at us,” he continued. “It wasn’t shots that were to scare us or to organise us, it was shots that were targeted to kill us.”

“If they wanted to organise us, they would have, but they meant to kill us,” he added.

Child and infant among 9 killed in Nuseirat

Nine Palestinians have been killed by an Israeli air attack on an apartment in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, according to al-Awda Hospital.

A child and an infant were among the victims.

Israeli forces raid towns near Bethlehem

Israeli forces have been carrying out raids in towns around Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, the Wafa news agency is reporting. It said Israeli forces had raided locations in the towns of Tuqu, southeast of Bethlehem, Dar Salah and Zaatara to the east, and Beit Fajjar, south of Bethlehem.

Police arrest demonstrators at London protest

Police in London say they have begun making arrests at a demonstration in support of the banned direct action group Palestine Action.

In a repeat of scenes that played out the previous two Saturdays, officers from London’s Metropolitan police detained protesters in Parliament Square who were against the ban put on the group.

As in previous demonstrations calling for the ban on the group to be overturned, protesters held placards reading: “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action,” PA Media reported.

Palestine Action was proscribed under UK “anti-terrorism” laws earlier this month, making expressing support for the group a criminal offence punishable by up to 14 years in jail.

London police arrest 55 for supporting banned Palestine Action group

London’s Metropolitan Police say they have arrested 55 people under anti-terrorism laws at a demonstration in support of the banned group Palestine Action in the British capital.

Protesters had gathered in central London for a third Saturday in a row to protest the pro-Palestinian group’s proscription under “anti-terrorism” laws, making it a crime to support the organisation, punishable by up to 14 years in prison.

In a repeat of scenes from the previous weeks, police hauled away protesters carrying placards declaring: “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action”.

Last Saturday, police arrested 41 people at the demonstration for supporting the banned group, and the week before that they arrested 29.

The UK better start building more jails soon...

NGO head calls for ‘real access’ in Gaza, end to militarised schemes

Jan Egeland, head of the Norwegian Refugee Council, has rejected recent comments by the EU’s foreign policy chief, who said the bloc has noted “some good signs” regarding aid distribution in Gaza.

Kaja Kallas told reporters this week that those “good signs” included “more trucks going in” to the bombarded enclave.

“But for NRC and many others, no relief has entered for 142 days. Not one truck. Not one delivery,” Egeland wrote on X, noting that 85 percent of aid trucks never reach their destination amid looting or other issues fuelled by the Gaza starvation crisis.

He added that Palestinian families are surviving on a single “poor-quality meal” per day, if that, while the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation aid scheme has turned assistance into a dangerous and deadly scenario.

“Calling this ‘good signs’ is not just misleading, it undermines the reality aid workers and civilians face every day. Donors and diplomats must demand real access: security guarantees, full-scale entry, and an end to militarised distributions,” Egeland said.

“This isn’t progress. It’s failure, rebranded.”

Palestinian infant, only weeks old, dies of malnutrition in Gaza

We’ve heard from the director of al-Shifa Hospital, Dr Muhammad Abu Salmiya, who just announced that in the past few minutes, two more cases of [patients with malnutrition were pronounced dead inside the hospital.

One of them was a 35-day-old newborn baby who died of malnutrition.

Many of the [patients] are picked up from the streets; people are fainting in the streets.

Meanwhile, inside the hospitals, there isn’t much that can be done to help people. Resources are not available. The hospital is under resourced, it doesn’t have enough capacity because it has been dealing with the huge influx of injuries for the past months.

This engineered suffering and structured harm against Palestinians started when the Israeli military imposed a full blockade on the crossings, preventing aid from coming in [and] leaving close to 2 million people without access to food.

Ambulance sirens to sound across Gaza tomorrow amid starvation crisis

The Gaza Health Ministry has announced plans for ambulance sirens to ring across the territory tomorrow as an “urgent warning” over the worsening starvation crisis.

Ambulances will gather outside al-Shifa Hospital complex in Gaza City, Al-Aqsa Hospital in central Gaza’s Deir el-Balah and Nasser Hospital in southern Khan Younis. The sirens, which will ring at 11am local time (08:00 GMT) on Sunday, represent “the voice of the hungry and the bereaved who are left to die”, the ministry said in a statement.

At least 116 killed by Israeli attacks on Gaza today

This update to today’s death toll comes to us from sources at hospitals in the Gaza Strip.

The toll includes at least 38 people killed by Israeli fire at aid distribution points run by the GHF.

Director of Nuseirat police among those killed in Gaza strike: Ministry

The Interior Ministry in Gaza reports that Colonel Omar Saeed Aql, director of Nuseirat police in the central governorate, was killed along with 11 of his family members when the Israeli army bombed their home earlier today.

The new “massacre” took place in the town of az-Zawayda in the central part of the besieged enclave, the ministry said, condemning it as a “heinous crime” in a statement.

“We renew our call to the international community and the United Nations to take a firm stance to stop the repeated Israeli violations against police personnel who perform civil duties and are protected from targeting under international law.”

Israeli forces arrest Palestinian fishermen off Gaza coast

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Media Office reports that three fishermen were arrested by Israeli forces near the Gaza port.

It said in a short statement that Israeli forces surrounded their boat and opened fire on them before arresting them.

The Israeli military has maintained a naval blockade on Gaza since 2007, when Hamas took over the enclave. The naval siege has only tightened since the start of the war in October 2023, with Israeli navy vessels blocking all humanitarian aid going into Gaza and firing on the coast and air strikes also hitting the coastal area repeatedly.

Palestine Action arrests raise questions around freedom to dissent

At the action earlier, 55 people were arrested, and that included an 81-year-old former magistrate. This is in addition to the already more than 100 arrests that have occurred across the country, simply for professing public support or holding up a placard in support of Palestine Action.

This is the third weekend in a row since that ban [of the group] has come into force. It’s certainly not deterring any supporters of Palestine Action from turning up and making their point.

The point that they want to make is the fact that they simply held up a banner and vocalised their support – and it’s that that can get them arrested and lead to a sentence of up to 14 years in prison.

You’ve also had criticism from human rights activists, saying this is really striking a blow to civil liberties in the UK. They’re really questioning the idea of exactly how much freedom to dissent there is here.

As in previous demonstrations, protesters signalled their support for the group by holding up signs declaring: ‘I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action’

Israelis shout ‘death to Arabs’ as they attack Knesset member’s car

A car carrying Arab member of the Knesset Ayman Odeh has been attacked by Israelis in the city of Ness Ziona, south of Tel Aviv.

Right-wing activists intercepted the car as he arrived to deliver a speech at a protest in the city. Israeli activists spat on Odeh and broke the rear glass of his car, as shown in videos verified by Al Jazeera’s Sanad agency.

According to Israeli media, the police were aware in advance of a demonstration at the location. The Israelis chanted “death to Arabs” while attacking the car and called the lawmaker a “terrorist”.

The Israeli police announced in a statement on X that they arrested three residents of Ness Ziona on suspicion of involvement in the assault and vandalism of the car of a deputy in the city. The police described the incident as “unusual and dangerous,” noting that they would interrogate the detainees, examine documented evidence, and identify and arrest other individuals involved.

The below video, posted by Israeli media outlet Kann, shows the incident:

Israel’s opposition leaders slam attack on Arab member of Knesset

Leading opposition figures Yair Lapid and Yair Golan have strongly condemned the attack on lawmaker Ayman Odeh that we reported on earlier.

“I condemn the violence against Knesset member Odeh and call on the police to find those responsible and bring them to justice. There is no place for political violence in a democratic state,” Lapid wrote in a post on X.

Golan wrote that the attack is a direct result of “prolonged political incitement” and attempts to vote in the Knesset to earlier this week to expel Odeh because he has spoken about the mass killings in Gaza.

“This is an attack on the entire Arab minority in Israel,” he said, adding that the opposition will continue to try to oust the government and “will not surrender to the hatred and racism coming directly” from Prime Minister Benjamin and his far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Settlers Storm Old City of Hebron under protection of Israeli soldiers

Verified footage circulating on Palestinian social media shows that a large number of settlers stormed the Old City in Hebron in the occupied West Bank this evening under protection from Israeli forces.

Heavily armed soldiers stood guard, with local platforms reporting that Israeli forces prevented journalists from moving to cover the settler advances.

Israeli forces also launched a raid on the village of Anza, south of Jenin city in northern West Bank, using armoured vehicles.

More details on Israel’s killing of Palestinian child near Jenin

Defense for Children International-Palestine (DCIP) has released more information on the Israeli military’s killing of a 13-year-old Palestinian boy yesterday near Jenin in the occupied West Bank.

DCIP said Israeli forces opened fire on Amr Ali Qabha after he unknowingly approached the army, which had taken up positions in the village of Yabad.

Qabha was hit by seven bullets – three in the back, one in the neck, one in the abdomen, one in the upper thigh and one in the groin – from a distance of 10m (33 feet), the rights group said.

Israeli soldiers then beat and detained the boy’s father, who had managed to reach his son, and prevented ambulances from reaching Qabha to provide medical treatment.

“Systemic impunity creates an ultra permissive context where Israeli forces know no bounds and routinely shoot to kill Palestinian children in circumstances where there is no imminent threat to life,” Ayed Abu Eqtaish, DCIP’s accountability programme director, said in a statement.

“Unlawful killings of Palestinian children have become the norm as Israeli forces become increasingly empowered to use intentional lethal force in situations that are not justified. In short, these are war crimes with no consequence.”

More settler attacks reported in occupied West Bank

The Palestinian news agency Wafa is reporting that dozens of people in al-Mughayyir, near Ramallah, suffered from tear gas inhalation after Israeli forces stormed the village following a settler attack.

Residents had confronted the settlers, who attempted to enter the village, Wafa said.

Separately, in the village of Nilin, also near Ramallah, a Palestinian man was injured after settlers attacked a home that was under construction. The settlers fired live ammunition at residents who attempted to stop their attack, but no additional injuries were reported, Wafa said.

Palestinians rally in West Bank cities to back Gaza, intercepted by police

Footage circulating online verified by Al Jazeera shows Palestinians demonstrated in several cities in the occupied West Bank in support of Gaza.

Groups of people were documented protesting in the streets of Jenin, Nablus and Ramallah, while local platforms reported that security forces with the Palestinian Authorities prevented and dispersed several demonstrations, and arrested multiple participants.

Demonstrators chant for Palestinians, Gaza in Jordan’s Amman

Videos circulating online that have been verified by Al Jazeera show a large march in the al-Tafaylah district of the Jordanian capital, Amman, in support of Gaza.

Hundreds of participants roamed the streets, chanting slogans in solidarity with Gaza and condemning Israeli starvation policies and the continuing aggression against the enclave.

Protesters at US embassy in Tel Aviv appeal directly to Trump for deal

All he has to do is stop supporting Israel, but unlikely that will happen.

Main events on July 19th

  • The spokesman for the Interior Ministry in Syria said tribal fighters were pushed out of Suwayda, and armed clashes within the southern city have come to a halt.
  • The Israeli army killed two more people in separate drone attacks on southern Lebanon, and said they were Hezbollah “terrorists” trying to revitalise the group’s infrastructure.
  • Tens of thousands marched in Tel Aviv and directly appealed to US President Donald Trump to reach a deal to end the war and bring back all 50 living and dead captives from Gaza.
  • Israeli soldiers arrested more Palestinians during raids across the occupied West Bank, and settlers launched more violent attacks, including in Ramallah’s al-Mughayyir.

Tribal fighters pushed out of Suwayda: Syrian Interior Ministry

Noureddine al-Baba, the spokesman for the Interior Ministry in Syria, also says clashes in the southern city have come to a halt.

The announcement, shared by Syria’s official SANA news agency, comes after the government deployed forces in the Suwayda governorate to try to quell days of sectarian violence.

‘How many more forcibly-starved men, women and children have to be murdered?’

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has condemned the international community for failing to act as starvation grips Gaza.

“The international community, with the complicity of our own government, has not only tolerated but effectively normalized the daily massacre of Palestinian civilians by the far-right government of indicted war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu,” CAIR said in a statement.

“These are not accidents. These are not isolated incidents. These are the predictable consequences of a system of brutality and impunity backed by billions in US taxpayer-supplied weapons and aid,” the group said.

“We demand immediate action to end all US support for Israel’s genocidal assault. Silence is complicity with genocide, and normalization of slaughter is a betrayal of humanity.”
