And for about the price of a base PS5, no less.

Bit of false equivalence going on here, the PS5 doesn't have many of the components & power constraints that a S2 has to include/contend with.

You can compare any handheld on the market and make it look bad by comparing it to a similarly priced console or PC.

All I'm saying is that if I'm a non-biased gamer (which I am), and trying to decide which console is going to provide me the best tech for the money, it's certainly not going to be the Switch 2. Ever since Wii, Nintendo has released hardware that either can't run that gen's most advanced software, or runs it worse. So why would I bother with Nintendo? There most certainly won't be GTA 6 on that system. And if there is, it definitely won't be the definitive version. And that goes for anything else that is graphically intense.

Switch has handheld value added to its tech though...but, yeah, if you don't care for handheld experience, it does feel like paying too much of handheld "tax" to get to Nintendo games you want to play.

I'm assuming you're on a high-end PC & not tainting your experience on a PS5 or Xbox?

Nintendo has a large library of first party games that can't be played anywhere else (legally).

On PS5 & Xbox nearly all of the games are becoming available on superior hardware so if you're only into platforms that offer the 'definitive' experience for any given game you'll find way more of those on Switch 2 - why bother with Sony or MS?

I don't think a Switch Home would be Nintendo's next offering. I think their next SKU is a Switch2 with the dock sold separately for $349. Not talking about a Switch2 Lite (that could come later), but literally Switch2 packaged without the dock. I would expect it within 24 months after Switch2 launch, to give a little boost of sales after the initial rush died down.

It's an easy offering without dev work, just new packaging. It would entice people that already have a Switch2, want a second one in their household but do not need a second dock. It would also split the initial purchase cost for people who would get the dock separately afterwards. And also with the bigger screen and mouse support, the Switch2 is now also kinda a competitor for a gaming Laptop.

I agree, I don't think they'll do the Switch Home either.

I reckon the dock will cost them about $5 to $10 so can't see them knocking off $100...

Costs more than that. It has a processor inside it.

Could you possibly link to that info?

EDIT : I l looked it up. There's no price available for the rumoured chip but chatGPT has this to say:

'I couldn't locate any specific pricing information for the Realtek RTD2175N-CG chip. It's possible that this component is either not widely available on the market or is sold through specialised channels that require direct inquiries.

However, similar Realtek models like the RTD2136N-CG are available from distributors such as Ovaga Technologies, with prices ranging from $1.93 for a single unit to $0.96 per unit for bulk orders of 4,900 pieces. Another variant, the RTD2132N-CG, is listed on WIN SOURCE with pricing starting at $2.26 per unit, decreasing with higher quantities'

So if the similarly named chips are indicative of the price of the one being used by the S2 dock, it's not adding much tbh...

And Nintendo will be buying in the tens of millions so will get them at a fraction of the price.

Stop using AI bullshit. Anything you post when using Gen AI trash is moot.

I think just writing off AI generated results as a rule is a bit extreme and is a stance that is gonna age like milk.

The linked price of the referenced other chip is accurate.

Ultimately, unless you have a source for the price of the chip that the S2 dock is using there's no reason to assume that it's going to be costly.

Split Fiction (PS5/XSS next-gen only title) compared on PS5 Pro Vs. Switch 2

Interesting comparison. Sometimes the faces feel like they look sharper on Switch 2, but overall with background and texture you can see they are less refined on Switch 2.

Before they ran the side by side and slow mo comparison and just played each footage one after another they did feel very similar. So a good effort on Switch 2 that many won't even care there is a difference.

I watched this in 4k, and at no point did the Switch 2 version look better.
Its clearly running higher resolution and texture quality on the PS5.

But yes this is acceptable, from the differnces in power between the two.
Like this is still a good port.

Using Chat GPT is letting a machine do critical thinking for you. So yeah, anyone using it and posts here as some sort of argument. Insta block. Not going to think for yourself? Not worth reading. Years down the line, relying on AI to think for you, you'll no longer be cognizant. If that's the way you want to live. Feel free. I also choose to stop acknowledging the existence of your account.
