Zelda wins this one very easily for me. Majora is up there with Ocarina and the two Zelda Switch games for my favorite polygonal game in the series. The only disappointing part to me was the ending/final battle.

Diablo II easily for me. I have no idea how many countless hours I spent in that game for years! Even leading up to the launch of Diablo III.
Deus Ex would be my honorable mention.
Last edited by G2ThaUNiT - on 26 October 2023This is year I finally got my own computer (AMD Athlon 850 + Nvidia TNT2 ultra) that I did not share with my parents and along came Diablo 2 to fill my nights. Diablo 2 was probably the first PC game that I play none stop for months so it get my vote. It also the standard that basically all games after it followed in this genre.
My runner up is Dragon Quest 7. I pretty sure this game have easily my record for longest first play through of any JRPG I played. Other JRPG I have spent more hours in when counting multiple play through or post end fight but when only counting first play through to defeating final boss this games wins. There a interlude in the middle of the game that probably more hours into the game then most JRPGs take to finish.
This is one of the easiest years for me. I choose Deus Ex.
For me, this is the best game of 2000, the best game of the 2000s, the best PC game ever, and -- if not for Breath of the Wild -- the best game ever. Amazing presentation and storytelling, huge replay value, outstanding level design, and, most essentially, liberating gameplay that supports player agency and rewards experimentation and outside-the-box thinking.
I'm going with Diablo II. I played this game sooooo much and the base game was really good even before the Lord of Destruction expansion.
Signature goes here!

Talk about a game that aged horribly. Completely outdated in terms of gameplay just one year later with Halo.
2000, a year of sequels mostly, great sequels with Diablo 2, Baldur's Gate 2, Driver 2, Thief 2, Red Alert 2, yet also some originals like No One Lives Forever
That really makes me wonder why we never got Austin Powers based fps/tps games. It kinda felt humor was becoming unpopular in 'serious' games. Fun game.
Another one I really enjoyed was Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force
Icewind Dale was great as well. However I never finished it as I was mostly playing Everquest
But I have to recognize the huge success The Sims has become which was already instantly addictive in the first iteration
It's the Seinfeld of gaming, a game about everyday life. Why is this fun, yet "The franchise has sold nearly 200 million copies worldwide, and it is one of the best-selling video game series of all time." "The Sims 4 has been commercially successful, topping the all-format video game chart in 2014, and has received over 70 million players worldwide as of 2023, making it the most popular game in the franchise"
My wife and I made ourselves in game (The Sims 2) to see what our babies could look like with the genetics simulation. Our real life babies turned out better :) My wife didn't want to play anymore after our first born electrocuted himself while changing a light bulb. The game has some evil streaks as well... Annoying neighbor? Lure them into the pool and remove the ladder or lock them in a room by removing the door. The sims is as much a murder simulator as CoD lol. Maybe even more since it's virtual murder in the first degree :p
Gotta be Diablo 2 no question for me, addictive as crack cocaine. But I’m glad to also see some love for The Sims. Crazy that it’s still the only major game of its kind.
