You can't one-up Rockband. That's like Sonic 3d trying to one-up Mario 64 - it ain't just gonna happen.

Sonic 2 did one up Super mario world tho :)

I guess thats debatable...

Can't wait for Guitar/Drums/Singing Hero 4!

Sigh, I know it's necessary, but it's just a sign of how big sellouts they are.

To be fair, the actual Guitar gameplay in Guitar Hero is far superior to Rockband's.

Yeah, and that's why this news depresses me a bit. Guitar Hero is great because they only have to choose songs where your instrument really shines. When I play Rock Band, there are just too many songs with too many sections where one or more players is just kind of there. Hopefully Guitar Hero 4 will have a more balanced song selection than Rock Band...although since Rock Band's released half the songs in the universe through DLC, color me skeptical.

I kinda find it amusing how much anti-GH sentiment people harbor. Get over it guys, its a business (looking at you too mods)! Companies screw each other over on a daily basis, this isn't even remotely abnormal. This idea that one company is a sellout and another is saintly is silly to say the least.

As for the games Rock Band is a great game and they did a lot of things right, you'd be insane not to see that. But you'd also be insane not to see that Guitar Hero does the guitar far better. And now they are going to keep competing for this market/genre and the result is that we will get better and better gameplay along with our new songs.

I don't see anything wrong with that. But I do see something wrong with this impulse for people to mention how much better Rock Band is every time Guitar Hero is mentioned. They are different games right now folks...and since nobody has played GH4 we have no idea which will be better in the future when they actually are similar (assuming this story is true).

/end rant.

The guitar hero guitar parts are more difficult.  Most people probably can't beat guitar hero on expert, as such, most people probably won't see that guitar hero is "far better".  I think most people take aim at Guitar Hero because they've bought Rock Band and they've made there choice.

First, I expect Guitar Hero IV to be better than Rock Band.  They've seen all Rock Band has to offer and should be able to improve several areas of Rock Band.

Second, I have no intention of buying Guitar Hero IV.  Here's why.  Rock Band is a great game.  I've owned both Guitar Hero III and Rock Band.  I enjoyed both immensly.  I like Rock Band more because my wife doesn't like guitars but she'll play the drums.  And I'm one of the nerds that went and bought an extra guitar for the 4 player action which is amazing.  And then I realized that with the space Rock Band takes up and the cost, I'll probably never buy another rythum game.  Doesn't mean the others suck.  It just means in my opinion Rock Band is the best Rythum game out there.  Since I don't have a 360 I don't have Guitars that work on both games.  I refuse to get four guitars and if Guitar Hero IV becomes Rock Band Hero I'll refuse to have two band sets.  So unless Guitar Hero IV encorporates (very unlikely) Rock Band instruments I won't be getting it.

I guess I should never say never, but Rock Band is very good.  And I'm unwilling to upgrade for a better game.  It would have to be amazingly better for me to switch at this point.  And no more instruments isn't going to do it because I don't want more accesories laying around.

Agreed competetion breeds inventionus hence why monopolies(EA) are bad why improve if you are the only one?

"Like you know"

Does anyone else think the Guitar Hero: Aerosmith thing is a bad idea. I think Guitar Hero has reached the end of the line with 3 games. Rock Band is the next logical step.

Since Rock Band is going to be gimped on the Wii this is awesome, awesome news for Wii owners. All 24 millions of us.

See you're really not the type of person I was referring to tho

A lot of people are still up in arms about how Activision "stole" the idea from harmonix or whatnot and basically is never good enough becuase of . The fact that Activision is following in pursuit of the competition in this case is only going to fuel the "copycat" claims despite the industry being full of such things....and us not knowing exactly how they are going to implement it. If they do a straight copy then yeah its stupid, but if they add to it then they've justified it because the genre is progressing. Good ideas shouldn't be exclusive to an IP, but developers should try to add, not just take away. I think you would agree with that (you seem to anyways).

GH Aerosmith is wonderful.  Who knows, if I really like it, I may rent it twice.  It is the 4th GH game. GH On Tour and GH  will also come out this year.  I don't think 6 different GH games is too much.  I hope they make at least 12.  I'll likely only buy 3 of them but I  enjoying playing other people's copies or renting the game.  I just don't see how GH Aerosmith could be a bad thing.  It is said to be eaiser (more like Rock Band), if that helps you.

The next logical step is for Guitar Hero to add another instrument, vocals, more music, or a combination of the 3.  The company hinted that it is adding all 3.
