Sony cancelled Bluepoint and Bends next game. Both live service games.

Bluepoint was working on a Live Service God of War game.

So disappointing.

I'm surprised Sony Bend management didn't want to pursue a Days Gone sequel, but were more than happy to pursue a live service title.

I'd like to know more about that project because I do wonder how much of it could just be pivoted (salvaged?) to a single player (co-op) concept.

I think what's really strange about this news is that I would not have assumed either would've gone into the live service model, they just aren't big enough. I know Bend had live service experience required for their game, but that also could've easily just been part of the push for Days Gone 2 (which was going to have MP elements).

Anyways, too bad. Feels like wasted potential for both of these studios.

Only bright spot would be the SMS leaker on ResetEra telling the PlayStation OT not to worry about Bluepoint. Perhaps the live service project was something small and Bluepoint has a single player GoW on the way? At least that's how I'm coping about it lol.

Well, Bluepoint helped with Ragnarok so anything is possible I suppose.

Bluepoint does more remasters and remakes right?

The God of War Spartan Hero collection rumor a while back, hopefully its that.

They're trying to move away from remakes last I recall. As in they were working on an original IP.

Can't say I care so much for a GoW collection when they could easily just put all the games onto PS Classics and be done with it. I'd prefer the rumoured Atreus game tbqh.

There must be monumental pressure on Marathon and the upcoming Horizon Online project.

Its honestly getting a little spooky with Guerrilla Games too. We know they've been working on a second project since 2018/2019, but we haven't even got a teaser for it yet.

Horizon online and Horizon 3 iirc.

I think Guerilla is easily the safest studio at Sony, alongside ND and SMS. I have no concerns about them.

I want a GoW collection (with remakes) mainly because if it ever comes, it would be on both PS5 and PC (I'll double dip for sure lol) and would play way better than the original versions.

Also like I said before they could do a straight port to PSClassics but GoW1, 2, CoO and GoS badly need remakes than remasters at this point. God of War 1 especially, that gameplay did not age like wine lol.

I didn't want to imply that Guerrilla would be on chopping block if Horizon Online got cancelled. It just would be massively disappointing if another live service game got cancelled.

Bluepoint has less than 100 employees total. I would be shocked if they could have been working on multiple projects after working on Ragnarok between 2020-2022 and then this live service.

As for Bend, who here was trying to say they weren’t working on a live service even though everything regarding the project was for live service positions? lol

What a shame though. I don’t see how a God of War live service game would’ve worked tbh, so that’s for the best, but now what for Bluepoint? Bend, we’ll never know what the new IP was going to be. This is now……7 of Jim Ryan’s live service games that have now been cancelled or failed? Somewhere around there. It sounds like Sony is righting the ship though. Unfortunately, who know when we’ll ever see a new game from either studio now.

Ooooooh damn! All for 1 major success and 1 major failure. And 1 good success in GT7

I mean this is fair: they would be better versions (hopefully).

yeah ok, I agree. It would be if another seemingly didn't get off the ground. And I think a Horizon MP game could be a lot of fun.

I wouldn't say there was a lot of that pointed to Bend's game being a live service, but that was also arguable because Days Gone 2 was going to have MP in it. Bend's track record over the last decade also didn't support a switch to live service. So, whether it was a live service game was still up in the air until it was announced. But now we know. The fact that it was ultimately one is quite surprising all things considered.

This tweet is kind of misleading. Games like Twisted Metal, Deviation, Payback (and possibly the London Studio) weren't even far into development (or even being actively worked on in some cases) for it to matter in the grand scheme of things.

Twisted Metal being live service does make sense since its always been a PVP / split screen multiplayer game from the start but the rest of these games like God of war / Horizon / Spider-man etc have no business turning into a live service game for the sole purpose of maximizing monetization using the titles popularity and trashing the IP's legacy and fan base that took years to build.

Its just crazy to me that Bluepoint helped out with Ragnarok for two years after the launch of DeS.

I always thought they had a smaller portion of their team assisting SMS rather than the whole studio. They didn't have anything else in mind after Demon's Souls lol?

Sucks for the amount of time wasted on these projects but good to know we are getting back to normal going forward.
