Its an absolute embarrassment. PC gamers review bombing Baldurs Gate 3 as some form of protest is even more pathetic.

The reviews on steam are pretty trashy lol. The game doesn't matter, everything it's about their own agenda. They don't like who owns the game? Review bomb. They don't like the devs have opinions? Review bomb. The official twitter of an engine makes a tweet supporting minorities? Let's review bomb all the games made with that engine LOL.

it's an unwinnable battle with PC gamers. All they (referring to the most vocal PC gamers...not necessarily the majority) do is review bomb, or complain when a game hasn't been ported over to PC.

Do y'all think it's possible Sony held off from dropping too many major releases this year in order to build up a powerful catalogue to compete with NSW2 next year?

I don't think so.

We haven't seen Sony do that kind of strategic releasing. There have been some instances where Nintendo has apparently held off on releasing a game to more strategically spread out releases. But we haven't seen that kind of behavior with Sony. Stuff generally seems to come out when it's done.

I don't think they would have released Horizon II and Gran Turismo 7, 2 weeks apart, with Elden Ring in the middle, if they were that strategic.

Possible there is one or two more major releases yet to be announced?

Yes. I expect there will be more announcements for next year.

Cerny talks about PS5 Pro

Also with Digital Foundry:

I see. Ig I'm looking at Sony from the perspective of a Nintendo fan...though in my defense, launching Horizon Zero Dawn one week prior to NSW+BotW does scream like Sony was getting a little "ballsy" and felt they could potentially put a damper on Nintendo big launch with their own. Additionally, launching first-party exclusives near the launch of major third-party titles does provide incentive to players to purchase PlayStation over Xbox (if we're talking about the market of console consumers). Though I'm kinda just talking off of intuition. No idea what Sony's thinking is.

Frame Gen would be a pretty massive improvement. It's one of the biggest factors keeping PSSR from properly competing with DLSS.

Do y'all think it's possible Sony held off from dropping too many major releases this year in order to build up a powerful catalogue to compete with NSW2 next year? Seeing how powerful Zelda, 3D+2D Mario, MarioKart, Splatoon, Animal Crossing, and Smash Bros were during the NSW gen, I can only imagine Sony is a little worried abt PS5 remaining competitive once this whole new wave of Nintendo games drop over the next 3-4y. Plus, we already know of Ghost of Yoeti for PS5. Possible there is one or two more major releases yet to be announced?

I doubt Sony would be holding anything back just for the Switch 2 launch.

I can see them announcing a few first party games at the next State of Play though. A price cut around the time GoY or GTA6 launches would be massive as well, and position the PS5 competitively with the Switch successor.

Exactly what I needed today. Mark Cerny's ASMR session, featuring the PS5 Pro presentation. Kind of felt like he was whispering the PS6 at the end.

Doubtful.

At this point, none of the three console makers are actually looking at each other as direct competition. Each one is trying to expand what they each think is their best route to increase their revenue and userbase.

Microsoft's trying to expand Xbox as a service rather than a hardware platform. They dont really need to worry about losing revenue because they own Blizzard Activision, Bethesda, etc which will bring in revenue (along with porting their titles to PC and Playstation).

Nintendo is doing their own thing they've always done first party wise, they are expanding into live entertainment (i.e. Movies and amusement parks) and dipped their toes into mobile by having second party dev/third party devs make mobile exclusive games using their IPs.

Sony is already expanding their ecosystem albeit a bit slower than Microsoft (i.e. expanding to PC) but mainly re-enforcing their hardware lineup with the PS5 Pro. They are hitting the ceiling with what they can do, the PS5 Pro helps elevate it a bit but long term planning includes expanding to PC (and I can slowly see them expand to other platforms like Switch, they already greenlit LEGO Horizon)

Not saying we'll see the bigger titles coming to Switch but I can see smaller titles and partnership/license titles like LEGO Horizon and MLB.

Third party exclusives have been less this generation than past - I can see it being close to none in the coming generation (i.e. Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy being the last big exclusive deal that SE has for an example - at best a 6-8 month exclusivity deals).

No. Sony doesn't sit on games. If they did, Spider-Man 2 would not be the glitchfest it was when released as a holiday game. Nintendo, however, has no issue sitting on a game for months or a couple of years to better fit a release schedule.

No, I think it's just the covid delay coming to an end. A big part of both playerbases are so different usually games sales don't collide, like how last year Wonder and Spider Man 2 released the same day, I don't know how much Mario usually sells but the Spider Man numbers were in line with what was expected. The sales of the switch 2 are obviously going to be big so it's up to sony to lower the prices of the base PS5 + whenever GTA6 releases it will also boost the sales of the console.

Now talking about line ups we know Pokémon is going to be the Switch 2 seller and it's going to sell a lot doesn't matter what, with some luck people also get the beauty of Metroid Prime. PlayStation has 3 games confirmed for next year: Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding beach episode and Lost Soul Aside that is a chinese game they have been backing up for a good time. Ghost of Yotei is going to be good 100%, who knows how DS is going to be lol and Lost Soul Aside can be a trump card because if the chinese community back up that game the same way they backed up Wukong is going to be a home run.

I wouldn't be surprised either if Nintendo and Sony announce something extra next year, Sony applied the Nintendo strat 3 times this years, announcing games we didn't know existed and also releasing them the same year.
