I believe that is only USA, but worldwide the gap is likely shrinking very fast.

USA only yep.

Ahead in Japan as well.

Probably going to PS5 domination this year.

Sony acquiring a new studio.

I'm waiting for Square acquisition

Add Firewalk to the list of first party studios that is ready to show at the next showcase. I wouldn't be surprised to see this project releasing later this year, considering Herman Hulst was playing a build of this game a couple of years ago.

Sony acquiring a new studio.

I was already considering them a bought studio for quite some time.

Yep, I think there's going to be a good showcase coming soon.

Maybe Sony will have to break it up into two showcases.

There was kind of a mix where people thought they were not going to get acquired because they were owned by ProbablyMonsters. And others that thought it was certain.

A good number of smal devs that were doing exclusivity contracts ended up being bought up, and with this much consolidation going over I was already imagining this and a few other as already having some type of performance milestone contract when they made the initial deal.

I'm actually curious now whether Sony will potentially team up with ProbablyMonster's other 2 studios. 1 of them is working on a co-op RPG, which seems like a prime partnership (not necessarily an acquisition).

But I'm not terribly surprised by the acquisition of FireWalk - this is the studio that Sony gave office space to, isn't it? Though, I'm not sure what this says about ProbablyMonsters.

Anyhow, I imagine the showcase is going to be meaty. But i also think Sony will probably focus on end 2023 and part of 2024. I think Sony isn't going to do long term announcements like Wolverine unless stuff is potentially going to leak (which in the case of Wolverine, kinda did).

I still hope not. I love Square Enix, I love that Sony is getting many FF games as exclusives, but I don't want them to be taken away from Nintendo. Stuff like the Pixel Remasters and the HD Remakes and Octopath HAVE to be on Nintendo, it'd feel wrong otherwise.

I worry if Sony bought Square-Enix they'd make ALL the games exclusive, which robs Nintendo. Xbox wouldn't miss them but Nintendo would.
