Everwild must have been another 2 years or so away from release. Of games to be canceled, this doesn't surprise me. They should have canceled it when the original creator left and started on something else. I'm not sure if Contraband is effected in this decision since it's developed by a 3rd party developer, but maybe. The only other game I'm worried might get canceled is Perfect Dark, but hopefully not. Now that would be a dumb decision.

Contraband would definitely be on the hook. It's been through a development hell and this would not be the first time Xbox has cancelled a 3rd party game. I'm more concerned about the likes of Compulsion getting shutdown now since SoM took 7 years to make. That's a long time for a modest hit at best.

There has to be a reason why they're not announcing what's getting hit in the Americas yet.

Contraband may be 3rd party, but it is funding going to a project that appears to be going nowhere fast. Frankly, from the outside looking in, I don't see any particular reason that it shouldn't be cancelled.

Course it is, Satya will replace everyone with AI except himself.

Hmm... so I asked GPT 4.1: "You are made head of Xbox today and in charge of the studios. What would your strategy be?" (sorry VGC does not do Markdown which GPT uses)

If I were made **head of Xbox** and in charge of the studios, my strategy would focus on four main pillars: **Game Quality & Diversity, Studio Empowerment, Ecosystem Growth, and Community Engagement**. Here’s a detailed breakdown:

---

## 1. **Game Quality & Diversity**

- **Prioritize Quality Over Quantity:**
Ensure every first-party release meets high standards for polish, innovation, and fun. Delay games if needed to avoid unfinished launches.
- **Diverse Portfolio:**
Invest in a wide range of genres—blockbuster shooters, RPGs, family games, indie experiences, and experimental projects. Encourage studios to take creative risks.
- **Leverage Acquired IPs:**
Revitalize classic franchises (e.g., Banjo-Kazooie, Fable, Perfect Dark) while supporting new IPs from both established and newly acquired studios.

---

## 2. **Studio Empowerment**

- **Autonomy and Support:**
Give studios creative freedom while providing resources, technology, and cross-studio collaboration opportunities.
- **Talent Development:**
Invest in training, diversity, and well-being to attract and retain top talent. Foster a positive, inclusive culture.
- **Global Expansion:**
Open or acquire studios in underrepresented regions (Asia, Africa, South America) to tap into new talent and perspectives.

---

## 3. **Ecosystem Growth**

- **Game Pass as a Flagship:**
Continue to make Game Pass the best value in gaming, with day-one releases, third-party partnerships, and a mix of big and small titles.
- **Cloud Gaming:**
Expand cloud gaming to more devices and regions, making Xbox games accessible anywhere.
- **PC and Cross-Platform:**
Treat PC as a first-class platform. Support cross-play and cross-save across Xbox, PC, and mobile where possible.
- **Backward Compatibility:**
Preserve and enhance the Xbox legacy by supporting older games and remastering classics.

---

## 4. **Community Engagement**

- **Transparency:**
Communicate openly about development progress, delays, and future plans. Build trust with players.
- **Player Feedback:**
Actively seek and incorporate community feedback into game updates and future projects.
- **Inclusive Gaming:**
Invest in accessibility features and diverse representation in games and marketing.
- **Events and Esports:**
Host regular digital and in-person events, tournaments, and showcases to keep the community engaged.

---

## **Key Initiatives**

- **Annual Xbox Showcase:**
A major, transparent event highlighting upcoming games, studio spotlights, and community stories.
- **Indie Accelerator:**
A program to fund and mentor indie developers, bringing unique voices to the platform.
- **Sustainability:**
Commit to eco-friendly practices in hardware, packaging, and studio operations.

---

## **Summary Table**

| Pillar | Focus Areas |
|-----------------------|--------------------------------------------------|
| Game Quality & Diversity | High-quality, varied games, new & classic IPs |
| Studio Empowerment | Creative freedom, talent, global reach |
| Ecosystem Growth | Game Pass, cloud, PC, backward compatibility |
| Community Engagement | Transparency, feedback, inclusivity, events |

---

**In short:**
I would make Xbox the home of the most creative, diverse, and player-focused games in the world, powered by empowered studios and a thriving, inclusive community.

That's actually hilarious, ChatGPT would make a better CEO than Satya, even a fucking AI understands creativity and how to foster a strong workforce better than Satya.

JFC. If Satya wants to replace everyone with AI then start with his overpaid ass.

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

Jez also said Everwild was coming along great and had strong backing from Microsoft. There was confidence from other insiders because Gregg Mayles had started leading it. If they lose Greg Mayles because of this then Rare has just lost their most experienced and skilled employee, who created Sea of Thieves, Rare's biggest game ever and one of Microsoft's biggest ongoing videogames which has raked in millions.

I literally posted a few days ago how Rare was still pulling in profits because of Sea of Thieves...

Lets hope for Rare's sake that Gregg Mayles agrees with the cancellation otherwise I imagine he may just fuck off and leave and take a few employees with him with how loved he is inside of Rare and then people can actually be right in saying that there's no OG Rare employees left at Rare. Though I'm not sure he'll join Playtonic because they're having a rough time lately too.

Only thing I am holding on hope for is that a few weeks ago, Andy made a vague tweet about how a new Banjo is now more likely than ever, I don't know why he said that, there was nothing really to cause that tweet.

Maybe Gregg Mayles has decided to go back to Banjo and Andy heard about that and Everwild has in part been cancelled due to that, but Gregg Mayles has said before he doesn't really like going back to older IPs and if he did another Banjo it would probably be his retirement game.

Everything has strong backing from Microsoft until they need to make a quarterly report higher, then everything is on the table.

Must be horrible being an employee, not yet knowing if you're about to be laid off, with rampant speculation all over the internet. Hoping the damage is limited and we don't see the diversity of games hurt. I've always been more attracted to the smaller AA titles which is why PlayStation's output has been disappointing for me recently. It's the smaller titles I don't want to see impacted.

Or, he spoke to some PR guy, who gave him a PR answer, which means dick
