With increasing grosses in the cart, Warner Bros/Legendary’s A Minecraft Movie is on track to mine an opening weekend of $260M+ worldwide.

The Jason Momoa/Jack Black-starrer is at $52.7M from the international box office through Friday in 75 overseas markets. That portends an offshore debut in the $125M range. Combined with the domestic mania, it brings us to at least $260M global through Sunday.

As we noted yesterday (see below), China opened on Friday with a No. 1 of $6.6M, repping the biggest launch day for a Hollywood title this year. It topped all comps including The Super Mario Bros Movie (+46%) and was more than double Kung Fu Panda 4, as well as the first and third Sonic the Hedgehog movies. Through Saturday — not included in the running international box office above — Minecraft has minted an estimated two-day China cume of $11.5M.

The UK had a super $6M start on Friday, taking a massive 91% of the market’s top five films, and scoring the biggest box office day of the year. Friday’s results are higher than Super Mario (+19%), Across the Spider-Verse (+33%), Inside Out 2 (+80%) and more than twice all three Sonics, KFP 4, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, and the recent Jumanji movies.

Spain debuted with $1.7M on Friday, a dominant No. 1 at 83% of the top five movies in the marketplace, and the biggest opening day of 2025. Numbers are ahead of Despicable Me 4 (+8%), Across the Spider-Verse (+96%) and over two times the Jumanjis, Pikachu and each of the Sonics.

Poland was also new on Friday, grossing $1.5M at No. 1, and potentially on its way to the biggest opening weekend ever in the market (ie, it could surpass all Marvel and Avatar movies).

The Top 5 A Minecraft Movie‘s markets through Friday are China ($6.6M), UK ($6.2M), Mexico ($4M), Germany ($3.6M) and Australia ($2.8M).

I was originally going to order the red version as soon as it got revealed, but after using the Sky Cipher for a while I don't like the feel. Looks great, but compared to the Starfield controller nowhere as comfortable.

If they release a DOOM version with the same quality as the Starfield I'll probably buy it.

How do they feel different? I haven't used the Starfield controller. The Cipher ones have the rubber grips on the back which I like the feel of.

I'm not sure if the rubber grips are better quality buy they do cover more of the controller. Also the plastic on Cipher is coarse but somehow also more slippery. The Starfield controller feels smooth but also grips well overall.

They both do the job but I'd really love another controller with the same build as the Starfield one.

Update: ‘A Minecraft Movie’ At $145M+ Bound For Videogame Pic Opening Record, Toppling ‘Super Mario Bros’

Box Office: 'A Minecraft Movie' Headed To Massive $130M+ Opening, Best Opening In 2025 So Far

Whose kids are going to see it? Or do you know of any relatives seeing it? I'm not bothering to go and see it but I know 2 of my nieces and 1 of my nephews are going to see it and they rarely go to the cinema at all, plus my niece is going with a few of her friends while my sister is taking her kids. Plus those damn McDonalds Minecraft meals blew a hole in our pocket, Lol.

My wife just took our younger dude to see the dubbed version. I'll take the older one to see the original in couple of hours.

Idk I thought all those trailers looked dope us fuck. Minecraft, Jack Black, Jason Momoa.. what's there not to like? And you can see from those trailers Black is going to give his everything instead of just collecting a paycheck.

Dubbed version is pretty genious. They gave small voice acting roles to most popular Minecraft youtubers to ensure each and every kid wants to see it lol.

Warner Bros can breath a sigh of relief, Minecraft has saved them, Lmao. At least it will give them a little breathing room to chill out a little bit and hopefully not pin their entire hopes on James Gunn and Superman. But still, David Zaslav is fucking trash and now I imagine he will run around like a little gremlin gobbling up the licenses to other gaming IPs, Lol.

Jack Black is awesome and always puts in 100%.

It seems like something to just switch your mind off, stop over analysing everything from an adult perspective and just have fun with your kids. It is clearly a movie geared towards kids as well. Adults forget being kids, liking films back then that adults back then would have said were bad too, I can say there's some shit I liked as a kid which looking back was panned by adults. Reminds me of films like Minions which were panned critically but kids fucking love it. There's a weird amount of adults upset that this is a success, Lmao.

Pleased to report that my niece who went with 2 of her friends all enjoyed it, one calling it "absolutely amazing" Lmao. One of my nephews and three other nieces are going at a later date, likely next week when they break up for Easter Holiday. The cinema was fucking packed so hopefully things calm down quickly, Lol.

To add another one, Five Nights at Freddy's did $297m on a $20m budget, Lol.
