Disagree, I enjoy the game, I also think it is interesting and the world will likely stick with me, it makes me almost want to play Pillars of Eternity 1/2 because I'm loving the lore but I dislike those types of videogames, instead I'll likely go on a lore deep-dive on Wiki, Lol. You're plucking your assumptions out of thin air because you're sucked up in negativity.

Anyway, I saw plenty of people on ResetEra telling people to dip into the early access because they were loving it instead of simply waiting for it to become "free" on Game Pass. Thousands of people dipped into the early access on Steam for $90 which was a complete rip-off low-key and I would not have paid $90 at all for 5 days early and a few free skins and yet during early access period, Avowed had over 80% in user rating on Steam, implying people were happy with their decision to be ripped off, Lmao.

I would absolutely recommend Avowed but why the hell would I recommend anyone who has access to Game Pass to buy the game? Makes no sense. If someone has Steam only then sure, I'd recommend to buy it, as would many others, Lol. Part of the reasons I even dipped into early access was because of the very positive impressions on ResetEra tipping me over.

This feels like a dig at the thread as a whole, that we are just fanboys seeing whatever we want, and only your opinion is true, I've provided just as much, if not more, counter to your argument in this thread. I ain't lying to myself about anything, the fact that you believe that and it upsets you so much, makes me believe you just want to wallow in negativity.

I'm not that upset about Avowed, since I've already stated my expecations had already dropped low to begin with. I'm concerned about the future of other RPG franchises and the self-awareness of Xbox Game Studios to actually see what's going wrong.

If Xbox fans aren't even willing to acknowledge when they've gone wrong, how will they ever acknowledge it?

Idk. Guess people simply disagree with you on Avowed. If this is what Carrie put on on 1st attempt then I'm very excited for Avowed 2.

If Fable becomes a Witcher 3 clone, I will be disappointed but I'm not looking to Avowed and taking anything away about Fable at all because why would I? They're completely different RPGs, developers, etc. I'd rather Fable not chase after being something else and focus on being Fable. Not really sure what I'm meant to be concerned about for Fable based on Avowed, Lol.

Dont' you think it sounds a bit silly =p?

Every game has hate or haters, especially when new iterations of a franchise release you will see hate but what you are saying is....
' Hey You!!'  'how dare you enjoy it, don't you see you are wrong???'  This is literally happening right now,  Some Yakuza fans are dislinking how Yakuza is going in this weird direction with pirates, others hated the RPG Yakuza games.....

There's nothing wrong with enjoying it for what it is. But you can also admit when it's not good enough for how long people have waited, how high the expectations originally were or what people originally wanted it to be. Those things aren't mutually exclusive.

I'm not telling people to hate the game. Only why it's not going to do well and why we should be concerned about other similar franchises. Why shouldn't that be talked about?

"What people originally wanted it to be" - That's your issue, it's not Obsidian's fault that you imagined up some game that didn't exist. There's was ONE point where it was LEAKED that it was meant to be Obsidians "Elder Scrolls" but then for multiple years after that, Obsidian made sure to repeatedly say that it is NOT their take on The Elder Scrolls and is far more streamlined/condensed.

It has been good enough for me, I don't know what to tell you.

You're making an ASSUMPTION that it won't do well, based on very little data I might add and somehow linking Avowed to Fable...You can't just say "similar franchise" because it's an RPG...Fable ain't feck all like Avowed, Lmao. Fable ain't nothing like ANY RPG that I've played. It's like saying Halo and COD are similar franchises.

Personally the only thing I ever saw people wishing it to be was an Elder Scrolls holdover game while Bethesda continues to take their sweet time making TES 6. Obsidian themselves shot down those expectations pretty early in development, making it clear to anyone expecting Avowed to be to Skyrim what Fallout NV was to Fallout 3, that that wasn't going to happen, that they were making a smaller RPG with a much smaller dev team than modern AAA's usually have, which would differentiate itself from Skyrim instead of trying to be Skyrim 2.0.

The reason development took so long was not because they were spending time making some very high end AAA masterpiece, the reason for the long dev cycle (2018-2025) was that the game was rebooted in like late 2020, where the director changed from Chris Parker (Alpha Protocol, South Park TSoT) to Carrie Patel (director of The Outer Worlds DLC's), and the darker gritty tone that the initial reveal teased gave way to a more colorful take on the game. If people were expecting some high end AAA masterpiece due to the long development cycle I'm sure they are disappointed in the final product, but I personally knew about the reboot on the game from Jez leaks since like 2022, so I was expecting what we got, a game with only around 4 years of development post reboot with a small 100ish person dev team.

Yup. I'm not sure if Obsidian themselves even said it was meant to be their take on Elder Scrolls, I think it was that twat Chris Avellone who leaked it and said that, I think he said Chris Parker wanted to do a take on Elder Scrolls. For years, Obsidian rammed it down peoples throats that it is nothing like Elder Scrolls and not their take on Elder Scrolls and set expectations very clearly.

Chris Parker got shuffled off, Carrie took over, it was rebooted, it was also rebooted because the original Avowed pitch had MULTIPLAYER in it...Now I imagine that would have pissed off people a lot, Lol. So people wishing for the "original" Avowed should be careful what they wish for, they're wishing for original Avowed based solely on a 15 second CGI trailer with no other information.

And even the change in art-style was appreciated by Pillars of Eternity fans because The Living Lands is straight up described as colourful and vibrant in the lore, not a dead skeleton wasteland fort, Lol. I even saw Pillars fans pushing back on the art-style change criticism by saying that Pillars 2 is vibrant and colourful as well at times.

I think the issue is people think/thought colourful = not serious but that's not the case at all.

I still dislike the name, Lol, Carrie said it wasn't her name and carried over from the reboot, I think she should have changed it. Avowed 2 sounds even worse, Avowed II is a bit better because roman numerals make everything better, Lol.

G2 is welcome to all these recent posts

Anywho, I suddenly have the urge to try out Sword + Grimoire combo...But I'm really liking my Sword + Gun combo.

Question for PC users, if Xbox started releasing everything on Battle.net + Game Pass/Achievement support. Would you still use Xbox App/Windows Store or would you use Battle.net instead?

This week's Unlocked just finished recording. I had a great time interviewing Avowed game director Carrie Patel and Obsidian studio head Feargus Urquhart about Avowed – but of course I also asked Feargus about Fallout. 😉

If everything goes according to plan it'll be out tomorrow at 6am PT.

Love the free entertainment

anyways, THPS 3+4 would be a great shadowdrop. And with Skate 4 hopefully coming out this year it almost feels like a skateboarding resurgence lol

Obsidian fans/RPG fans/PoE lore fans.

I would definitely not personally. Definitely not for it's launch price of $70. Did you like it that much?

I did... I mean you seem to believe that everyone should have your taste in videogame?

Clearly, I do not have the same taste. I really like the game and as a Skyrim/Fallout/Oblivion enthusiast; I would definitely recommend this game...

You seem to believe that if we disagree with you it is either because we are "blind Xbox fans" or something else... Why would you not also consider that it is maybe because we "actually" like the game?

I respect the fact that every game is not for everyone and clearly you had different expectation for Avowed than most of us here... This is fine; but it does not make the game bad in any way; just not for you.

Yes. The reason is that Battle.Net is simply not designed to have a lot of games at the moment. The top bar is just a mess when you have too many games so I do not see myself using this client for my whole library.

The Xbox app may have its flaws but it is way better than Battle.Net for managing a lot of installed games for my taste at least :D
